So what does that mean for the rest of us who have or want the automatic. Does GTM have a fix for this, or are they working on one?

Auto guys probably have to run a pulley w/ lower boost.

There go my stage 2 dreams. :(

Fezzik 11-01-2010 02:31 PM

Unless you build your tranny out.

GUTCH 11-01-2010 02:39 PM

What does "build my tranny out" mean? Upgrading it essentially?

How much would that cost (ball park)?

Fezzik 11-01-2010 02:59 PM

They call it making it bulletproof.

I have heard good and bad things so do research. Some people with cryo treat the syncros too. You can make the tranny indestructible, just takes money and what your willing to do.

May I suggest a PPG Dog Box :driving:

quick question, what is the max rated blower speed that c38 can do, and what is the blower speed of your kit at the specified stages?

rotrex blowers are very efficient, but the s2000 guys have learned the hardway that the rpm limit they are rated too is a hard hard cap. guys pushing them just 5% higher have destroyed them. this is the c30 though. but i would guess they are very similar in design, just the c38 slightly bigger.

again, not hating, these blowers generate the least amount of heat i have ever seen on a blower setup!

Do either of the above make auto trannies as well?

Q8y_drifter 11-02-2010 03:48 AM

Is GTM going to inspect the blown tranny to see what caused it?

shumby 11-02-2010 07:25 AM

^^^ no i don't think i'll be shipping it from canada to Sam at this point. Still no word from the dealer will call them today

You should call these companies and see if they are building fortified 7 spd automatic transmissions yet:

Nissan Performance Parts & Upgrades | Nissan Transmission, Torque Converter & Valve Body

RE5R05A | Titan | G35 | 350Z | FX35 |Performance Transmission

517 Trans - Catalog - Infinity

shumby 11-02-2010 10:59 AM

I have e-mail them all. Awaiting replies

docaam 11-03-2010 01:47 PM

I hope it works out for your...else might have to drop he SC plan

GUTCH 11-03-2010 02:50 PM

Shumby, I don't know how crazy you're prepared to go but there's a crowd in Melbourne Australia you may want to try...

Torque Converter | Streaker | Dominator | Eliminator | Autoflight Engineering | Melbourne

I'm sure there are others across the country.

RCZ 11-03-2010 03:43 PM

^ He already found some stock trannys to replace his with.

GUTCH 11-03-2010 04:01 PM

Won't a stock tranny just fail again?

:( damn me too...

GUTCH 11-06-2010 12:20 AM

Me three. :(

Someone has to let us know once they find a solution to the tranny problem. Otherwise I'm going to have to wait a long time until I can afford a GTR ($160,000 in Australia).

docaam 11-06-2010 12:10 PM

I think he bought another tranny already, and this concern hasnt been addressed which I feel is an imp atleast for me if that things is so risky then time to unsubscribe from the thread

Q8y_drifter 11-06-2010 12:18 PM

There's numerous Z's and G's with GTM, GReddy, etc twin turbo's running more power and doing so for years now. Terry's twin turbo 5AT sedan has been going for 3 years now? A few threads down there's a 7AT twin turbo Z (or maybe G) pushing over 450whp. I don't think the tranny is that weak. This may be an isolated issue.

I know about 5AT, if you remember I told you even there is one G35 as well with stage II GTM running perfectly fine its with trango trans upgrade but this 7AT is looking scary to me, as this Gs went down maybe because of whatso ever reason and then there is a Coupe here they guy made some arrangements with Uprev to do some testing on his car and they dyno his car for 10-15 times and then after a week again same thing 5,6 and 7th starts slipping not sure why.

For me Im working things out on both levels going for GTM SC kit and looking for any available valvebody and trq converter to be on the safe side, as getting a used tranny is not such a big issue but then getting that down to dubai is a big hassle.

KaienZ34 11-06-2010 02:05 PM

I was also 4k into saving for a gtm stg 2 SC kit, but with the 7AT breaking from so little power (considering it was only 6psi) i just don't know. I'd upgrade the tranny aswell but i don't want too spend another 2k+++ just so i could drive it, i'm not looking for crazy power just what is offered with the kit.:shakes head:

Zsteve 11-06-2010 04:10 PM

Im out now too, dont want to pay for a new tranny so, I will be looking to get a 2011 vette around Aug/Sep 2011 when they are selling them cheap to get ready for the 2012s.

Fezzik 11-06-2010 10:48 PM

hehe. One auto tranny going out of how many F/I cars running and everyone bails. There are other people running auto trannies and there are no problems.

Im not sure how many will agree but FI for me is that I dont need that much power but I want that much power:icon17:

Don't we all?? :bowrofl:

Jordo! 11-07-2010 03:09 AM

It depends what failed and why.

For example, our auto trans is a bit different than traditonal slushboxes -- it has lock up in 2 -7th gear.

In regular auto mode, calculated load determines gear shifts; if the load tables get altered in the tune to account for the extra air mass from boost, this may mean a lot of weird gear hunting and increased wear and tear on hard parts (i.e., due to lock up rather than fluid coupling), which leads to failure, especially with the extra torque passing through the converter.

That's harder to correct, but might mean things have to be tuned differently.

Or it could be something simple like cooked AT fluid. It's non-serviceable, so difficult to inspect.

Would help to know more details about the problem...

6MT for the FTMFW ;-)

Sucks for the auto guys

Looks like I'll have enough saved up for FI in the next couple of months. Probably go with this kit once some more dynos are available. Really hoping to see some good numbers. The Stillen thread has been a huge disappointment. This kit seems promising.

shumby 11-11-2010 12:51 AM

ok guys FYI. Got a used tranny for 4000. I will be installing it in the car. My old tranny will be going to GTM. Sam will be loking at it to see wha\t failed and how. More to come but it will be weeks maybe months away as |I am in russia right now and getting this done while I am away. FYI as well i have heard of more then my 7AT failing. Good luck Shumby. Sorry this happened. :tiphat:

Any updates on the fluttering issue?

Dixon, how is your build coming along?

Fezzik 11-17-2010 05:01 PM

Sam is working on the fluttering and coming up with a solution

lol Docaam, where you talking about me? :p

thats true guys, im the owner of that G, Its powerfull, it have more torque than the 5AT..shift faster, but it will not last long..:shakes head:

I got transmission replacement from dealer although i was not stock.

if you wanna FI your car with ur 7AT then i suggest you to wait for gtm to creat a valve body update, torque converter and etc etc etc.

shumby 11-17-2010 10:27 PM

Thanks for asking! Slow, but I knew it would. I'm like third in line. But I told him to take his time. I didn't need the car back until March. Keeps it outa my garage (I have too many vehicles ), plus allows me to come up with a little more money for other things I want!!
