Default Bolt ons with a2a supercharger kit

Hey guys,

Wanting to know which bolt ons I have wont work with topgunz a2a supercharger kit.

Fast intentions exhaust
Fast intentions headers
Stillen Intakes (I know this will have to go)
4.08 gears (this will have to go too)

So can the headers and exhuast still be compatible with the kit?

Headers and exhaust are both good breather mods for supercharging.

I know this is somewhat an old thread but I couldn't really find any answers elsewhere. I know turbocharged cars see big gains with better flowing aftermarket bolt-ons. Do supercharged engines work in the same way? In other words if I were to install a supercharger on my Z and then install a ported plenum, headers and exhaust would those gains be noticeable or show up on a dyno? Thanks!

Yes, power is made by moving air into and out of the engine. The faster that can happen the more power you can make. However, unless your going into built block territory there is no need to spend the money and time on this. With the Rotrex kit you just push up on the boost button and make as much power as you want to. (within stock block numbers).

I was thinking along these lines but I had read somewhere that the more you open the exhaust end on a supercharger build you'll see a drop in psi due to less backpressure and as a result a drop in boost (on the lower end?). Does this mean less torque or is this all be completely wrong. That is also true, I was wondering about bolt-ons for accentuating certain parts of the power band more. IF we were to install lets say an exhaust with +18 hp gains for example would we still see the same number in gains or even more with a supercharger? Also do superchargers quiet down the exhaust since they remove some of the rasp? Thanks!

Looks like you are a little confused on the differences between a turbo setup and a supercharger setup.

Me thinks you should read this:

Thank you for that, I know the differences in how each one is set-up or operates but I am not really sure how bolt-ons affect the supercharger vs the turbo. In other words you throw on some downpipes on a TT setup and you get faster spool and more power down low, but on a supercharger do we see bias gains in the powerband with specific bolt-ons? Thanks.

Boost is a measure of restriction in the manifold, where the source is taken. Actually, you dont "want" high boost numbers because that means your engine has more air in the manifold than you can get out the exhaust. Its essentially unused power. By opening up the exhaust you get to actually move that boost through the system, ultimately lowering your psi reading, but making more power. Thats a good thing.

Think of it this way. You take a large turbo and put it on a 6.2L V8. You are going to make 800whp at 10psi. Take that same turbo and put it on a 2.0L and you will make 400whp at 30psi. There is literally just less boost being consumed by the engine since it cant move enough air in and out fast enough, but the boost numbers are still much higher.

Wow that actually makes a lot of sense. Thank you for clarifying that up for me! Now as far as pushing up the boost vs bolt-ons, would it more make sense to push up the boost and bleed off the excess if we wanted to emphasize lets say mid-range power vs say using bolt-ons that emphasize the midrange if we aren't exactly looking for peak numbers?

I think you are not going to notice it. You strap a Rotrex on and set it up the way it is suggested you are going to be ripping through rpms so fast it wont be a noticeable enough gain to justify plenum work. I mean when your sitting at 500whp in the midrange and pick up 5whp with plenum work are you going to notice a change in the car at 505whp?

Honestly I dont have the numbers for this but am guessing for the time and money it may not be worth it. But if your looking to squeeze every last drip of power from this thing in the mid range and money is not an input then I guess its worth it.

Thanks for clarifying. It makes more sense to go without the bolt-ons and you are right that at the end of the day it probably won't be noticeable compared to the massive amounts of power we would already be making but I just wanted to know IF it would even make a difference.
