"That's a nice turbo, it'd be a shame if we sent it back to you in seven ziplocs."

Wasn't a fan of the design of the oil less turbos and seeing these things fail confirms that they are dumpster fires.

Yes, a brand new turbo, and is covered under warranty. COMP figures something got into the original turbo from or through the air filter. There was no defect found on any of the rotating assembly, anywhere.

I'm embarrassed for you.

This is the hot side bearing. Or what is left of it. Did something get sucked into the hot side bearing? Is comp trying to say it ate something with no damage to the intake fins and it took out the HOT side bearing? That excuse does not match the damage to the returned bags of parts.

When BettyZ gets his bag of parts back from comp I guarantee that bearing looks the same or worse.

Fine, but you can't tell me that Madwi's failure at 6k miles is acceptable. The fact that COMP won't warranty it is abysmal. 6k miles with solid maintenance should never experience a failure. Saying it's better than Precision is not a comfort.

Well, I spent 20 min on the phone with COMP, and in one of the units that was repaired they found pieces of flex pipe in the turbine housing....which can happen.

So yes, something could go through the turbine as well.

jchammond 06-19-2021 05:48 AM

Got to view the disassembled failed turbo yesterday up close :icon14:
Also viewed the most recent failed one that’s air cooled & less than 1k miles on it :wtf2:
Also noticed how the runners on the twin scroll mounting base differs on the water cooled vs. the air cooled :icon08:
Kinda speechless, as I’m really unsure what’s gonna be the proper solution to get this issue worked out :ugh2:

No in depth details here; simple pics of runners/ports are self explanatory

Nobody here cares about one unit they repaired. What we care about is the box of junk parts that clearly have a failed hot side bearing and that stupid air cooled paper weigh sitting right next to it with the exact same failure.

Ffs just man up an admit that you tried to make the kit more user friendly but got scammed by Comp into selling junk for them.

That's not the case with Madwi's unit. The inlet impeller has no FOD marks on it. It's clean. The impeller has rub marks on the sides from contact with the volute. The shaft shows high heat almost to the inlet side bearings. The grease that was on the turbine end has changed to a waxy ash. The grease that was in the inlet side bearings is still good. The turbine side bearings failed from a break down of the grease caused by the high heat generated from the turbine end.

JC included a full quaalude box in that photo next to the bud can to prove he wasn't high when installing.

Here is the grease turned to wax and the discoloring Rusty is talking about.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...4e34a949d0.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...030b6c04f1.jpg

Picked up a few things to play around with. Gonna get the car running tomorrow and then come up with a game plan for all the other stuff. Emails to Mazworks need to be fired off in the near future.

I still need to have the manifold flex pipe cut out and a new one welded in. Don't want another piece breaking off and taking out this turbo.

Zoren 370 07-24-2021 05:51 AM

Been having leak on my turbo too…I think radiator fluid got into it.

Leaking pusy texture green oil….:gtfo2: Zoren

Call Auto Dynamix. Tell him Greg said you WILL weld the part and to give you a good price. Talk to Dave.

madwi 07-24-2021 08:11 PM

Turbo got bolted up today to check fitment and fittings and line length. Exa pump moved over to drivers side and bolted up to a mounting plate graciously made by Betty.
///maestro stopped by for a few to BS which is always a pleasure.

madwi 07-24-2021 08:14 PM

Oil pan was mounted, what a nice piece. I knew it would be since its from CJM but always nice to admire it in person.

Yeah, I dont need my name stamped on the collars. :icon17: I'd snag XRP if redoing any fuel lines though.

Hello Joe,

The unit was damaged internal to see what caused the issue so that’s why it was covered under warranty.

madwi 08-04-2021 06:26 PM

Yum. Flex fuel sensor mount came in.

I have not asked for any help nor is there anything he could do for me.
I chose to replace all the parts of the kit, minus the hard piping, with parts not supplied by BP.
