It's May 2nd and I was looking for the high boost numbers. Did I miss the post somewhere?

Sorry for not posting. The carbon Z as some of you may know has an amuse titanium exhaust. While it is great for N/A applications it is not suited for FI work. The design and flow characteristics arent that great but it is *BLING*...

When the car was on the dyno Bobby noticed the underside of the car was really glowing. After a quick inspection he asked to pull the car off the dyno. They inspected the exhaust and noticed that the Y-pipe was constricting the flow of the exhaust and getting way too hot *enough to show fatigue around the welds*. Rich the owner is picking out a different exhaust for the Carbon Z and this exhaust is going on his wife's Z. Regardless, the Carbon Z is going back on the dyno most likely next week with a less restrictive exhaust and something that can withstand the heat and not crack the welds...

Elmo370z 05-02-2019 11:01 AM

How does visual inspection tell you that the Y pipe is to restrictive, because it’s glowing? Seems like there is a underlying issue somewhere that’s need to be sorted out.

gbrettin 05-02-2019 11:33 AM

Take the exhaust off and let it eat.

I said the same thing... was told it’s the final tune going on the car and they weren’t going to waste time just for glory numbers.

A set 2.25” pipes merging to a single 2.5” pipe isn’t a restriction? So 2 pipes with a 4” cross section each for a total of 8” of cross sectional flow merged to a single 2.5” pipe with a 5” cross sectional flow... what do you call that missing 3” of cross sectional flow? How about the 2 90* bends leading up to it?

Simple math points out to it being an issue. Compare it to a true 3” dual exhaust:

2 tubes with a cross section of 7” each for a combined 14” cross section compared to single 5”cross section... hmmm I wonder which would be more free flowing?

I had the same argument with my fabricator when I went from my Stillen exhaust to my FI exhaust. He had to custom fabricate the connection between FI’s mid-pipe and the turbo 3” DP (single turbo). He kept wanting to neck the 3” down to a single 2.5” pipe and then branch back out to mate to the mid-pipe. Took me awhile to explain to him that he was fabricating a restriction into the system. Finally got him to custom fabricate a 3”to2.5” Y, one 3” inlet and two 2.5” outlets.

Why wasn’t this address before the tune? Common sense would of told them it was going to be a restriction. Thanks for clearing that up.

He isn't in charge of it. For some folks it is beauty over function until the beauty don't function. LOL

All y'all's feelings are gonna be hurt when they show up at Zdays with a 1000whp dyno sheet.....in crayon.

Noop, don't wish bad JuJu on anyone. Best of luck to him. I am doing my own thang. If he makes 1000hp, good for him.

Absolutely. Anyone making 1000whp would be awesome for the platform. I don’t care whose kit makes it.

I can tell the Amuse STTI exhaust is indeed restrictive for big power. I had one and I sold it. XD It is a beautiful and light-weight design with show performance but it's essentially not a good one for forced-induction Z. It will give you up to 420-440ish whp (dynojet) and that's all. My tuner couldn't advance ignition timing as expected for the cars with the Amuse exhaust. The exhaust causes the increase in EGT under high RPMs. This is my personal experiences to be shared. Now I have a true-dual 3" exhaust and the issue I had to deal with was the increase in drone at about 2000-3000 RPMs and I have done something to reduce it. The system can be and will be better and I have scheduled a date to further improve it by a trustful local exhaust fabrication shop. The owner of that shop had customized a new exhaust for my friend for his high-power Z build and both the sound and performance are impressive, according to my design with minimized interior drone.
