I have the oil less 6267 which was just updated to the newer center section design 6467 ...and am going on 2 years and haven’t had any issues with filters melting (40k miles).....I would like the intake kit just to make cleaning the filter easier without having to remove the turbo

I’m with you. I see the intake as a bonus because you no longer have to drop the turbo to change a filter. That alone is worth the price of admission. |

This is the first time I am reading these air filter issues. The purpose of the intake was not because of the heat, and air filter damage (which was completely unknown to me), the purpose was solely to make the air filter easier to service/clean. That was it, not other reason.
I will make a few more of these intakes, and offer them as upgrades. I had to test the new engine mount as well on my own car before offering it to others. I now have about 5,000 trouble free miles on my own car, so I have a high degree of confidence that it works well. EDIT: The only time I have heard of a heat issue damaging an air filter was on the dyno, with continuous pulls without letting things cool down a bit. This of course is due to lack of air movement in the area due to the fact the car is stationary.

So I had to see what I can do to improve on what I am reading in this thread. Again, if I had know that some of you were having some issues, I would have done this a while back. This is what I came up with, as it sounds like the heat coming from the flanges is an issue.
With the previous version of the heat shield I was concerned about shielding the filter screen itself, so the shield sat further forward. With the revision, the flange is also taken into consideration: ![]() ![]() The lower flange bolt will need to be longer, instead of 1.5" it would need to be 2", so that the secondary nut can in installed (which holds the heat shield), after the flange bolt has been tightened.

Five filters in , and having actual filters to judge, I can absolutely confirm the flange is the area responsible. After trying several methods of mitigating the heat the extension of the shield backwards will be effective for a short time but the end result will be a hardening of the silicone and eventual splitting of the base of the actual element from the inlet neck. But from looking at your piece if the inner surface of the shield were lined with 1/4" Heatshield Products Header Armor it would shut down the issue of filter melt.
That said, I could use a discount on a front mount for my R and D efforts |
