The bad thing is your car sits there while others get worked on. That's one of the things that I don't like about shops. Sometimes they load their selves up with more work then they can handle.

Budget, LOL... Budget. You haven't noticed things always get out of control so crunch your numbers and be ready to spend 10 to 20K over that. If you get real crazy, it will be even more.

He said it was his lack of cash because the build got bigger and bigger. See post 237.

I know. You got the TT kit. Then the motor build. Add in the extras. Toss in the unexpected. Plus who knew I needed this and that. Then the OH F!@K. It all adds up real quick.

Now you got it. Race Cars don't have a budget. They want all your cash and then some.

Oh and remember, the TT kit is the cheapest part of the build.

I don't think that was on purpose. LOL I am kicking myself now. I could have got a Carbon 65 ZO6 Corvette convertible
with a 7 speed and kept my Nismo. I just had to have another TT Z.

I know. I've built 4 race cars and a dozen race motorcycles. But the most expensive per lbs was my mountain bikes when I was racing them.

I've been down the rabbit WAY TOO many times. :rofl2: It's a bad habbit I got. :shakes head:

I am doing one more and then I am done. I just want to do most of it myself, my 1975 Datsun 280zt.

LOL, Famous last words.

For me. If I was 50. No problem in going in with both feet. Now at 62. I'm trying to balance things out. It's hard to put into words my thinking. I'm looking at the end game. How many good years I have left. It's money vs years vs enjoyment. My dad went to 69. He was in bad health at 59. My mom went to 88. But she was in bad health around 72. My sister died at 64. My brother is still going strong at 73. Do I want to pull out $30,000 from my retirement plan to fund my ego.

Now, if I hit the lotto. Everything written above goes out the window. :driving:

You will need more than 30k.

With the way I would want to do it. Think about double that amount.

You may be able to do it for less. What I always look for is the point where
the cost and reliability can get out of control. So, I found that point to be right at 800 whp. I set my goal at that level or a little less. Trying to get more whp than that is when it starts to get real expensive and you can have reliability issues. Some folks have push the whp level up past that but not many. I call it the uncharted territory.
I will be pushing my build to around 18-20psi of boost. If you go any higher, that is when you will need an intake manifold. The next question is what will it take to keep the head gaskets sealed up and at what point this needs to be addressed. It is right at the 800whp level is what you hear. You also hear all the fear tactics of needing a closed deck block, etc. The problem I have is the folks that are fear mongering it can't be trusted. Just look at their previous adventures. They are the only ones making the closed deck blocks also. If I had another choice or more data on it, I would consider it.
So, if you keep it under 800hp you will be a little less than what you think. If you want to chase the 1000hp number, it will cost you. The bad part is you may have to do it several times until you figure out how to keep the engine together. You will be your own R and D department.

Yup that’s the truth I was almost done so many time and than I would see other blow there engines so I would ok where did they mess up what were they lacking and I would add on to the build like they said pay as you go when you going after uncharted territory like you said it’s a mixing pot of a lot of things money time patience a good shop a good tuner new parts nobody has used before and crossing your fingers
