What were you thinking - got any pics?

No specific pics, but I always liked the dome in the 240z hood. Maybe something like that with a some scoop or venting added in.

I've always liked the cowl induction style hood scoops....unsure exactly how many inches of rise is needed.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...49bc34ae03.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...91c0af6fab.jpg

I think we could rock that with the stock lines that are in the OEM hood

Unfortunately, or fortunately (depending on the design), the success of this kit will be determined by the hood design. The hardcore guys won't care, but the majority will judge it by the esthetics.

Curtis_J 02-19-2017 05:50 PM

Agreed. I'd really love to see something that is as subtle as possible, while remaining muscular in profile, and it's gotta look like it's meant to be there, as opposed to an afterthought.

If you have a good body shop, the other option would be to simply add a bulge, in metal, and repaint the hood. Cut, weld, paint. Honestly, it should be offered as an option for both the 370z and the G37/Q60. Wouldn't cost a whole lot to produce in quantity either. We'd have the option of using our original hood or purchasing a second hood and modifying it.

How far do we expect the supercharger to sit above the outside face of the stock hood?

bullitt5897 02-19-2017 11:26 PM

Guys the supercharger peak is ~6" above the timing cover. The real question is how far forward will it sit and what is the largest pulley being used. Once I have those details I can start making up the hood. I am still awaiting the hood to start doing general mock ups.

So realistically, we're talking 3" above the OEM hood line? Maybe a bit less? (where'd I put that playdough?)

I am thinking 2" - 3" above the hood in the center. But remember the factory hood drops ~1" around the center so a power dome would be at most 2" taller than a factory hood peak height. Again this is all dependent on pulley size.

They don't make OEM hoods like they used to...unfortunately. It would be nice just to add/retrofit the current hood like guys used to be able to do years ago when hoods were basically just a formed flat sheet of steel. Now, with all the framing on the underside to give it rigidity, there just isn't a good way to cut a hole and add something on top.

I agree with a couple of the comments above -- the hood will make or break the project with the majority of possible enthusiasts. "It's gotta look like it's meant to be there" -- perfect comment.

Keep forgetting that pulley...ok thank you very much for the info. Appreciated.

A lot have problems working with aluminum. Regular shops that is.

I like the style of the 350Z HR with the way it had the rise maybe something like that will be possible! Either way can't wait for it to be released definitely going this route when it becomes available, I've been following RJM for several years and all their products have been pretty much game changer's IMPO ! So to say that a hood would make or break the deal for others I suppose I could see that but I'd bet my lunchbox that whatever they come up with will be top shelf !!!!
