STAY SAFE! Dont pressurize that thing past 8 psi. That is more than enough to hear anything leaking. I heard mine at 2 psi.
|
I found the leak and it was easy. The two clamps that go on the coupler between the outlet of the intercooler and Y pipe were never tightened. You could wiggle them they were so loose. Fixed now! Didn't pressurize the system being that I found the problem.
Now the car is getting really squirrely with the open diff. The electronic TCS can't lock down on the rear brakes enough to control the car so WOT is very difficult to do. The Quaife LSD will be installed this Friday so that should help a lot! I'm not sure how much she is producing but I've got a feeling it is north of 450whp. Freakin' craZy! |

I took my Z to our monthly car show (first Wednesday of the month) and it was a BIG hit. No one there had seen the car yet and it drew a lot of attention. Parked next to my Z was a Dodge Hellcat but no one paid much attention to it compared to my Z. The Hellcat owner was a little miffed.....:shakes head:
It was a lot of fun and I got to meet many motorheads. The Nissan guys from the local dealership were drooling over the SC.:yum: Tons and tons of questions and LOTS of high fives for doing it myself. I took some pictures but they were pretty bad because of the sun angle. I'll bring a real camera next time. Heading to Z1 after lunch today to have the Quaife installed, finally!:driving: |
So are you done with the e-tuning or are you still getting the kinks worked out?

2 more days til u Dyno... Whoot Whooooot!!!!!

I had to stop the WOT runs because I was loosing traction above 6K rpm. The LSD will be installed tomorrow so that problem should be cured. I have found that this whole boosting process is just that, a process. Get one thing fixed and the next one shows up. It's all good and well worth the effort. Many, many thanks to the guys that contribute to this forum. Without their help and experience this would have been much harder! |
Quaife Install

Quaife install today at Z1.
Z1 is like Z heaven! |
Showed up at 9am at Z1 and the diff and bushings were done by 5 and then they strapped the car to the dyno.
I wish I could say that it was great but I'm still having a boost issue. With the 2.92 pulley on the SC it made 8.4 psi which worked out to 397.8 whp and 310 torque. This was on a Dynojet dyno. AFR was at 11.5. Oh, and the sound at full song, was heavenly! I'll post the video when I return home. With the Quaife installed I should be able to resume some pulls for Seb, safely! Once I get the boost problem solved AND Seb finishes the tune I'm hoping for bigger numbers. I'm still very happy with the results and I will get it resolved. What is not to like about 400 whp? While I was at Z1 I did pick up the full Akebono brake set, red calipers, drilled and slotted rotors, SS brake lines and Stoptech pads. They made me an offer I could not refuse! The whole crew at Z1 was great! I highly recommend them. |
You're on your way! This remote tuning business is really a process.... I'm interested to see how the Quaife helps out.
It's always interesting to me how SC guys are always having issues getting enough boost... while us turbo guys are always having issues getting too much boost. |
My thoughts are that a LSD like the Quaife is required for anyone going boosted. It gives you so much more control of the car when you lose traction. The loss of control is predictable. Plus it give you more overall traction.
Are you using UpRev and 93 Octane? |

OP congrats on the success! I'll be leaving my Z with Robert at Z1 on the 30th to have then install headers, intake plenum and tune. I've always ordered parts from them but never had them work on my car, your reps for them makes me feel good abouto my decision.

Right before the dyno run they noticed a screw missing on the fuel rail crossover pipe and replaced it. Whew, not sure how that got loose! Check out the cars in the showroom. WOW! They have a 300ZX twin turbo that is drop dead gorgeous. |

I talked to Topgunz about the low boost and he brought up the idea of belt slippage of the serpentine belt on the jack shaft pulley. There is very little contact area of the belt but the SC mounting plate has a threaded hole for another idler that will help that out. I remember seeing that in one of the FI threads. Time to go search that info.
I was planning on doing a leak test this weekend but got sidetracked by my new brakes. Doing the swap took way more work than I had planned so by the time I was finished with the brake install I was dog dead tired and decided to hold off on the leak test. Pedal is still a little soft so I'll bleed them again. |
