They actually started her up late last week! The video I got (thanks Daelen) warmed my cold black heart. She was purring like a kitten. A beautiful, ferocious, two headed flying rocket kitten from hell. :yum:

Thanks for asking. Believe me…I wish I had something great to post. The news I have is not great. But it’s part of the process. There was a suspicious rattle from the clutch area that pushed the final product out another 2-4 weeks (4 being worst case scenario); what with pulling the trans and diagnosing the issue. The slightly depressing timeframe is due to the tech’s holiday travel plans, but also because MA isn’t going to send me home without a 100% perfect product. Quality control is killing me right now. I would’ve loved to get her back before Christmas as originally planned, but that’s just not going to happen. In fact I’d consider myself lucky to get her back before 2016. I am bummed…super bummed. Definitely put a bit of a damper on the holidays. But this is just how big builds go and MA still has my total faith and trust. I’m glad they’re taking a hard line with the issue - diagnosing and fixing this rattle now will undoubtedly save me future stress and heartache. They aren’t charging extra for the labor. There was some thought that maybe an ester race oil might clear things up, but of course the oil has to be ordered, and if that doesn’t work there will be further investigation etc. etc. etc. There’s even a slim chance it’s just par for the course noise from forged internals, but MA’s bottom line is they won’t let me take her home until everything is 100% perfect, and I can’t help but agree. Sad though it may be.

There is a pretty awesome silver lining. Pump gas tune at 9psi was close to 500whp. So there’s that. Stay tuned...

EDIT: Also E85 tuning is not complete which adds a little time on the end. The rattle issue popped up midway through finalizing the E85 maps.

Good on them for standing up and saying "not yet". That is a hard thing to admit to. They'll get it fixed. Better now than later with a scattered engine on the side of the road.

Just wanted to stop in and thank Jade for being such an understanding and awesome customer. Unfortunately in this industry, things can happen that are out of anyone's control sometimes and it sucks. All we can do is make a promise to our customers that we will stand behind our work, and only deliver a car we are 100% confidant in!

Ill let Jade answer any specifics on the build, unless she would like me to. But this is one amazing car, honestly probably the most fun "Street" 370Z that has ever left this shop to this point. With plenty of room to grow.

Between the amazing turbo kit that FI Produces, the engine package we built, and the Jim Wolf Sage 1 cams this car in an animal. Builds boost fast, and keeps a very flat torque curve almost to red-line (Cams play a HUGE part in this).

One again I want to thank Jade for choosing us to build this car, and being so patient throughout the whole process. I hope it was all worth it in the end! Proud to have this car as part of the MA family.

Shoot me a call at 410-593-7080 or email me at Daelen@ma-motorsports.com and I would be more than happy to help you out! There is no real flat rate for a build like this, as each one may be a little different to suit the needs of the customer!

Instead of posting on someone elses thread and publically, call the shop directly to get specific quotes on your specific build. Everyone's build and cost will be different as the parts and add-ons are all different and require a different amount of hours of labor to quote.

Oh where to begin!

In a nutshell, it feels like I dropped off a Camry and left with a Rolls Royce... no, a rocketship... no wait, an actual time machine. I am a time lord now.

So yes it was quite a long time to wait, I'll just get that out of the way right now. There were definitely some days where I threw temper tantrums, but never really at MA directly because frankly that's just not my style. Daelen kept in touch with me 24/7 - every question I had, he responded within 24 hours. So I didn't feel like I was being shunted to the side or de-prioritized, it was more impatience than anything. But after last night, I will never let another shop touch my baby. Every second of waiting, every penny spent, was worth it and I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

First of all we didn't even make it to MA until they closed. They could've waited another night to tell me she was ready because Daelen knew I would jump in the car as soon as I got the call (which I totally did). They stayed late to show me the ins and outs of the car, and Carl took me on the inaugural ride. The roads were slick so there wasn't much to be done other than the tires breaking loose in 3rd.

So the fun stuff. It's hard to articulate without sounding cliché and repeating the same phrases all the other FI TT guys use. But it feels like this is how it was supposed to be made. This thing feels like it rolled off the factory line - honestly, it feels better. Looking back at the NA version, it's like that car was begging for some forced induction. She pulls like a rocket ship and sounds like a dream. The clutch can be demanding in first but after I get rolling it's as good as stock. The pickup is surreal, like there is absolutely no lag in throttle response anywhere. It feels like a completely different car, but with the drivability and comfort of the old Z34 we all know and love. I've put about 50 miles on her so far (nighttime, slick roads, unfamiliar territory) so have only gently gotten on her a couple of times. Mostly I just enjoyed giving it 25-50% throttle and watching the world turn into a blur.

And now numbers. 481 whp and about 391ish tq @ 9psi *on an extremely low reading dyno.* MA can chime in with their 2 cents on that but I'm told it's actually closer to 600. The MAF was maxed out at 9psi, I'll look into all the upgrades at some point, but for now just enjoying having her back and learning the ins and outs. I will probably be ostracized for this but personally, the numbers are less important to me now that I've driven it. This is a great starting point for my first big league car and I'm over the moon with what I've felt so far. Like Carl said, I don't want to sacrifice my ability to attack the corners like a real G! ;)

Sun's out - gotta go! More later. Pics and MAYBE if y'all are lucky a selfie or two :D hehe. Going to get a youtube account in order to post videos too, if anyone has tips for that and also my GoPro and mic setup (yes I have read all the threads) please post away. Thanks for reading all my rambling and for all the support along the way. It means so much to me, I love this community. Hope to meet all of you one day! Local heads we will definitely be at local C&Cs!

xx Jade

Oh Daelen, could you please chime in about the piston issue, inquiring minds must know. :)

tonythetiger 02-05-2016 09:58 AM

thanks! and lovin the build so far! very clean

1cleanZ 02-05-2016 10:03 AM

Its on a DynoDynamics which is naturally a lower #'s readying dyno(Depending on how they are callobrated, many would like to use a 1.1% up to a 1.2% conversion ratio to a DynoJet.)
With the 1.1% (low end)this would put your #'s more around 530whp and 430.1tq at 9PSI. Very nice and respectable #'s indeed! This on E85 I'm assuming?

TerribleONE 02-05-2016 10:06 AM

That torque curve.. :yum:

Hope you get the MAF situation figured out and can crank the boost up soon.

Thank you for the conversion! Yes, E85. Will be looking to turn it up in the future but for now just getting my hands on the wheel is perfect until warmer weather hits.

I spent 2 months researching shops and getting quotes from all over the country. Again kinda just my style. Ultimately I chose MA because their clientele and workmanship was already proven to be top of the line. But what brought it home was the personal customer service touch. Having spent my formative car years with a shop that wasn't up on the returning calls / answering phone thing, I really wanted to feel like I was getting a well rounded experience. Like I said, Daelen returned all my texts and calls almost immediately. I got pictures, updates, and videos without asking. Any time I felt frustrated about the timeline I just texted him and he always made me feel better. I will never go anywhere else and I'm so glad I chose them. By the way this build is not for the faint of heart financially. I worked for every penny of this project myself and it was not easy to write all those checks. But I'd do it all again in a heartbeat, without question.

Just go with MA! You won't be disappointed. They are currently working on a 1000 whp FI TT NISMO, among other things. Good luck!

Dyno wise, we use a Dyno Dynamics Unit (The Ole Heart breaker) It is consistently 40-60hp lower number wise than the local DynoJet Numbers. But like Jade said, once you drive it you just don't care anymore. For us it is a tool to provide the best car we can, and it does its job.

You see the MAFs start to run out around 550-600 for these cars on most other Dynos, and with the cams and compression this thing can move some air! Real happy with the performance on such low boost, this thing has plenty of room to go. Built to handle nearly 20 psi before the turbos are out of their range.

As for the delay, we ran into an issue after the break in of the initial engine with a slight noise. After some digging the call was made to pull the motor and inspect. After comparing the assembly notes to disassembly notes it was found that some clearances had changed a slight amount. Not abnormal, and in all honestly it most likely would have been fine and never caused any issues other than a slight noise. (If it was a shop car, would have never even been concerned on the noise) But being a customer car, and the goals Jade had set for the build, we didn't feel right sending it out like that. The parts where replaced, measures where taken to prevent that from ever happening again, and the engine was once again re-built. She runs better than ever before and will be solid for many miles to come!
