Yes, I had to remove the paddles. They were quite easy to remove, although I did damage the small plastic tab by trying to pop it off the wrong way

Yes, I had to remove the paddles. They were quite easy to remove, although I did damage the small plastic tab by trying to pop it off the wrong way with a screw driver, but you can't tell unless the wheel is turned that way lol. Each paddle is held in with three screws. You can access them once you remove the bottom cowel (plastic cover) which is held in with four screws.
