what is self healing paint?

Self-healing paint has been around since late 2005, early 2006 in the Japanese market and is the byproduct of the Japanese's obsession with cleanliness. It has been available since early 2007 on Nissan's Infiniti products, and no current Nissan model has it aside from the Infiniti ones (I'm not even sure the GT-R has it), if memory serves me correctly.

They call it Scratch Guard. It's basically a coating as thick as a normal coat of paint which goes over the clear coat of your car. The paint will fix itself after it had experienced a scratch that has not penetrated the Scratch Guard coat; allegedly pouring hot water over the affected surface speeds up the process. The Scratch Guard basically contains a highly elastic resin that mends itself over time when it is exposed to a heat source such as the sun.

Another one of Nissan's countless innovations. I'm not sure if the new Z will have it. Maybe it'll be extra.
