DTR-LED's tapped to Parking Lights: Small issue!!!!
Hey Everyone,
on my 2014 Sport/Touring I did a wire tap from the Parking Light Wire to the LED's power wire that is located in the front wheel well. Everything works great, except one minor issue. When the headlights are OFF and the radio is on, the back light on the Bose Radio Display is very dim. When the headlights are on, the radio display is lit normally. Obviously that the bridge is drawing power from the LED's, i was under the impression the LED's carry very low volts? So anyone know why this is happening to the Radio Display? Could there be any long term issues by linking the DTRL to the Parking lights? Appreciate everyones help on my first post here. Rob. |

I bet the voltage is coming back through the wiring you added. Have you thought about using some sort of Diode to block the voltage one way from the DRL? I could be wrong but that should sort out the issue.

I'm no auto wiring expert, but I do know it's customary for cabin electronics/dash lights to dim when headlights or parking lights are on, so it sounds as if yours are behaving reverse of normal. I'd reconnect everything normally until you find out what's wrong, then fix it.

Thanks JBurke,
Stupid question, if i added a Diode where should it be attached? Would that effect the operation of the parking lights and/or LED's by halting the electricity? The issue is NOT when the lights are on, its during daytime and the headlights are OFF. The radio window display does Not light up. Thanks |

No problem!
I think since you have 2 channels of current going into the DRLs you will need a diode connected on both of wire taps to prevent any voltage from flowing back through the bridge. I am not sure exactly which diode you need (12 volts, ? amps) but they do have markings on which way voltage can flow through them. You should connect the diodes before the actual wire tap. I am not sure if this is the safest way to wire them up, a relay could provide better results. |
