Window motor longevity

I hate having to get in the car when its below 30 degrees because the windows always seem to be frozen preventing them from rolling down as they normally would when you open the door. When manually rolling them down, I always hear a popping sound as the window attempts to roll down. For those of us that live in a colder climate, do yall think over time this may exacerbate the life of the motor?

Well I'm sure it wouldn't increase the life span, so yes I say it has a negative effect on it. Any added stress on a mechanical part will wear it down faster for sure!

Treat the rubber with 303 Aerospace Protectant or silicon spray to lubricate the rubber surfaces to prevent sticking even in freezing weather.

I'm curious about this also. Has anyone had to replace a window motor yet do to failure?

also WD40 works, you only need a small amount.

My passenger side windows failed open a couple years ago. Had the motor & drive assembly replaced under warranty. I don't think it's common at all so you shouldn't worry. But if your windows are frozen shut and you hear that popping sound when trying roll them down, that's the gears skipping. It's unlikely you'll destroy the motor, but if you strip the gear, it's just as bad.

I live in canada so I get frozen windows a lot. Hot tap water in a bottle is your friend! Pole a hole in the cap and squirt it at the edges of the glass where it's frozen. You'll defrost it in a minute
