Had 370Z Sunroof Installed

12 Attachment(s)
Had a Webasto 321L sunroof installed yesterday at Auto FX in Tacoma, WA and have attached some photos. Please no posts about whether a sunroof belongs in the 370Z - it is a matter of personal preference and really doesn't have an answer. However, if Porsche offers sunroof options on their $100,000 Carrera I think it is fine for the 370Z.

To answer some anticipated questions.
1) I watched them remove the section of roof and their are no structural components in the section they take out. There is a small aluminum roof stiffener that is no longer needed with the sunroof.

2) You are adding about a total of 20-25 lbs when the job is completed. It will be less if you go with the medium 321. Frankly, I was surprised that the larger sunroof fit but I think it looks great.

3) Webasto manufactures 50% of the worlds factory sunroofs so they seem to know what they are doing.

4) With the sunroof closed, the car is just as quiet as it was before. In fact,
when the shade is pulled you just forget that it is there. Have experineced no rattles at all.

5) Controls are great. You can preset two positions (and has other buttons to open it as little as you want) - I have them set for vent and full open and when you turn off the ignition the roof automatically closes.

6) The rollo shade works fine and is the same color as the interior.

Humm, very nice...

Nice!

Wow nice job. How much?

nogoodname 08-26-2009 01:37 PM

clean install............. nice

AK370Z 08-26-2009 01:41 PM

I'm not sure how I feel about this. As long as you like it. :ugh:

jpit 08-26-2009 01:42 PM

$995.00. I did alot of research, all of the dealers were charging this much with some asking for $1200.00.

Also, while I was there they had a 370Z from the local dealer testing a new type of stone guard. It is sprayed on and looks incredible - you can't tell that it's on and it is supposed to be better than what's on the market now. Still expensive.

Gaiiden 08-26-2009 02:13 PM

Awesome! Can we get more full-body shots of the car with the sunroof open/closed/popped up? A sunroof is the one thing I miss most from my Tibby V6 and I'd love to have one on my Z someday. My only problem is I like the roof lines that come back from the hood. Gragh. It would have been easier to decide with my 350Z since the roof on that is flat with no lines :P

m4a1mustang 08-26-2009 02:28 PM

Every now and then I wish I had a sun roof. Nice!

wolf41779 08-26-2009 02:30 PM

slick...kinda wish Nissan would have made it an option. I always wanted one on my WRX and when it was first released they didnt have them. Then a few years later...Vualaaa

mspeasl 08-26-2009 02:33 PM

I agree

^ +1 I agree
:twocents:

SManZ 08-26-2009 02:44 PM

Very nice! Where are the controls mounted?

The only thing I wish is that it kept the lines of the crease in the roof, but you can't have your cake and eat it too.

Hopefully Nissan takes note of this!

zZSportZz 08-26-2009 02:44 PM

Looks clean...nice.

kannibul 08-26-2009 03:03 PM

That'd be slick if the controls are mounted between the seat heaters...

Also, don't the lines for the air bags go through the center of the roof area? What'd they do with that stuff?!

JB1 08-26-2009 03:03 PM

Very nice! Have a sunroof in my daily driver and really like it, good to know it's an option for the Z as well.

jpit 08-26-2009 03:14 PM

The controls are mounted in front of the unit and you can see them in one of the photos. There were no lines in the area they removed other than an antenna line which was not in the way. I was concerned about the ridges in the roof presenting a problem but it worked out nicely. The sunroof sits flat and the ridges are still present albeit only about 3 inches long.

:iagree: I think I'm a fence-sitter on this one.

(btw, isn't that a tasteful way of saying that you don't really like it? No flaming. No derogatory comments. Really a great post on an on-line forum/bbs... probably would have gone unnoticed if it wasn't mentioned.)

whoady4shoady 08-26-2009 04:30 PM

It looks awful IMHO, but Im glad you like it, and that is all that matters.

SMcK23 08-26-2009 04:31 PM

I love it! I think its great and makes me question if I even want to wait for the vert now....hmmmm...

kdo2milger 08-26-2009 04:50 PM

+1! i like it, looks good

although im not sure about the passenger seat cover :icon14:

ssqpolo 08-26-2009 04:52 PM

i like it. but shoulda made it a T top!! targa Zs ftw

ZCarMan 08-26-2009 04:53 PM

Nice and clean. I like.

Smallywood 08-26-2009 04:55 PM

Looks decent, but I have a bad taste for aftermarket roofs in the long haul (bad luck a long time ago with aftermarket options)... Good luck with it as hopefully it won't leak or cause you any aggrivation in other ways. I can't imagine someone cutting into my Z roof to install... I'm so OCD, I think I would have been sick... Lol

jpit 08-26-2009 05:26 PM

The passenger seat cover is for my Golden Retriever and he hasn't commented on how ugly and cheap they are. Good eyes, kdo2milger.

zulus370Z 08-26-2009 06:07 PM

I really like it and i bet it would look 10X better on a black one since it will blend more with the color of the car.

If those guys were in South Fl, they would have my business.

TN370ZLC 08-26-2009 06:17 PM

Need more . . .

Need more pictures.

A little bit further away.

An over all shot.

Not so close to the roof.

Thanks

Tom

Shunya 08-26-2009 06:52 PM

wow this is a really really clean installation.
I've never actually thought about the Z with a sunroof :P

spearfish25 08-26-2009 07:06 PM

I'd love a sunroof to open up the interior feel. This looks really well done. After hearing good long term results I'd definitely consider it.

Shunya 08-26-2009 07:07 PM

I wonder how much this would cost to do, it seems quite expensive.
I can seriously consider this since I'm not gunna track the Z i dun think.

U-NVmyZ? 08-26-2009 07:46 PM

can u try remaking this video? YouTube - car commercial - sun roof feature, cat gets a suprise

He said "$995.00. I did alot of research, all of the dealers were charging this much with some asking for $1200.00."

Again, it's nice to know this is possible!

I would like a report in like 6 months or so to see how it's holding up over time.

And more pictures of the whole car

ConchZ2 08-26-2009 08:52 PM

Nissan should bring back the T Top……………….

Mike 08-26-2009 08:54 PM

Diversion 08-26-2009 10:03 PM
