it's not too bad

2ZORNT2Z 08-26-2009 10:47 PM

Webasto makes good stuff. Good choice dude.

As others have said it's not my cup of tea, but since it was yours, it looks like you got a mighty clean install!

RCZ 08-26-2009 11:11 PM

Not my thing, but I have wondered about what it would be like to have a magical sunroof that doesnt sacrifice rigidity...looks like you did a good job though!

jpit 08-26-2009 11:25 PM

If you saw the thin piece of steel removed to install the sunroof you wouldn't worry about reducing rigidity. The installer who seemed quite knowledgable stated that the sunroof actually added strength to the roof.

onethreefive 08-26-2009 11:28 PM

Looks good.

Probably due to the frame...

Rps13.jw 08-26-2009 11:53 PM

The engineers didnt build the car to have a sunroof. You would be surprised how much a sheet of metal can do, but looks nice...

MrBMW 08-27-2009 12:08 AM

Very clean looking install there. Personally I dont mind it. As someone mentioned above a Targo roof would rock as well.

Great work though. To see if someone in Aus can do it.

jpit 08-27-2009 12:18 AM

Try this for Australia: Webasto Australia Sunroofs for Automobiles and 4WDs

Good luck with it as hopefully it won't leak or cause you any aggrivation in other ways. I can't imagine someone cutting into my Z roof to install... I'm so OCD, I think I would have been sick... Lol

:iagree: But that's no surprise. Lol

Z_you_Later 08-27-2009 03:06 AM

I like it ... Im surprised someone had the balls to put one on .. I say if it makes you happy then make it happen .. its your ride .. Congrats on the mod ..it looks like a good install job ..

Yup I agree .. My friend had a Black 300zx T Top .. It was fun driving it with the sides off ...

mrmixitup 08-27-2009 03:59 AM

I'm all for making the car heavier............................only if I'm adding more horsepower.

Shunya 08-27-2009 04:08 AM

I like this sun roof more and more everytime I look at it now. :)

Need more pictures.

A little bit further away.

An over all shot.

Not so close to the roof.

Thanks

Tom

Yeah, need to see a further away shot.

dainedazz 08-27-2009 07:35 AM

THAT IS CLEAN. it looks good! u should post up pics with it open and closed with the whole car. i dont think i would get it tho cuz i cant have the extra 25lbs+ on it when i hit the track. but like what Shunya said, "i like this sunroof more and more everytime i look at it". maybe if my wifey gets a z34 we'd get it installed lol ;)

props for having the cojones to mod your roof.

LUVZTTZ 08-27-2009 11:06 AM

Looks great, man! I'd like to see T-Tops too. That's the only thing I miss about my old TT Z. Well, that, and the brief state of unconsciousness I felt when stomping on the accelerator.

jpit 08-27-2009 12:43 PM

The requested photos have been added.

dainedazz 08-27-2009 01:09 PM

looks good jpit.
good luck with your whip ;)

rreign 08-27-2009 02:00 PM

Never thought about it but now that I've seen it done.... I'll be this as well.

dcrew1x 08-27-2009 02:06 PM

Looks nice. I do miss my sunroofs from previous cars I've owned but I've grown to live without one.
Has this installation affected your in cabin noise?

jpit 08-27-2009 02:27 PM

Cabin noise with the sunroof closed or even in the vent position has not increased at all.
With it fully opened there is some increased noise but much less than traveling with a window opened.

cdawg410 08-27-2009 04:07 PM

Looks awesome, I certainly have no plans to track my car so I don't care one bit about the weight. However, I also don't plan to keep the car long so I don't know what that would do to the resale value. I hope my wife doesn't see these pics cause if so, I've just dropped a G!

havasuwiley 08-27-2009 08:39 PM

nice to see it done cleanly.

daone101 08-27-2009 08:53 PM

looks good, i was thinking about maybe getting a sunroof when i get my z

FuszNissan 08-27-2009 09:46 PM

Looks clean. I am just not a fan of cutting structural beams. But it does look nice.

jpit 08-27-2009 10:32 PM

No structural beams were cut. He had the headliner removed in five minutes and I had a good look at what they were going to do. They cut out a thin piece of steel (a section of roof) and moved a small aluminum rod that helped support the antenna.

davidyan 08-27-2009 11:56 PM

It has a very nice factory look to it. Good job!

frost 08-28-2009 11:25 PM

I think it looks just dandy.

DropTopGal 08-29-2009 12:00 AM

That looks GREAT!!!

The Z should come with a sunroof, at least as an option.

3SeventyZ 08-29-2009 12:33 AM

it would be nice to have a sunroof..

1slow370 08-29-2009 04:07 AM

I hope it doesn't sink in like some of the ones i've seen in roofs with no beams

BanningZ 08-29-2009 05:32 AM

I really don't think it detracts from the lines of the car too much.

I'm a fan of sunroofs if you don't care about tracking or weight.

Looks Good!

halrms 08-29-2009 04:47 PM

sunroof

How much rain has it been through? Leaks?

Spec Jay 08-29-2009 08:44 PM

itll go through enough rain soon enough hes in washington

DRUZ370 09-06-2009 09:48 PM

Looks great! I've been thinking about doing it myself and now I'm sure I will as I have the same color.

Thanks for posting the pics.

k20z3 09-07-2009 02:43 AM

I bet it will look sick driving down the road!

any leaks or anything silly like that?
