Default Question for people with Jdm fog light..

I have the fogs wired with my running lights. With it being on, it makes it hard to see when I am reversing at night time since its so bright. I was wondering if i could wire a positive lead from the reverse light to the ground of the fog to turn it off during backup...will that work by lifting the gound? Or will blow the bulb? Thanks for any hep

Use a normally closed relay for the ground and power the coil from the reverse light wire.

Thanks. Do you know how to wire the relay by any chance? I looked up the info online, but still not clear.

You want the normally closed version (auto part store will have one).
1 - goes to reverse positive
2 - to ground
3 - parking light signal wire that you currently have wired to fog light
4 - wire from 4 to parking light where you current have parking light signal wire

So when the coil is activated from the reverse signal, the switch opens and stops sending power to the fog light.

Is this easy to follow?

Also you just need a single pole, single throw (SPST) normally closed (NC) relay.

If you have trouble locating a SPST-NC relay, you can use a SPDT (single-pole, double-throw), or a DPST-NC (double-pole), or a DPDT, or even 3PST-NC, &c. It's just a matter of using different terminals.

Thank you! For Clarification:
2: The ground would be the ground that is connected to the Fog light? correct?
3: This is the actual power(positive) to the fog light.
4: This is where I have power to the fog: meaning my license plate lights. Correct?

So by doing this, I won't have a direct connection on either the ground or positive from my license plate lights? I will have both of my connection intercepted by the relay.

Does that sound correct?

Think of the coil in the relay as a light. When powered it will turn on. When it turns on the switch opens and shuts the fog light off.
Does this help?

Ignore the terrible paint/laptop skills.
