Hey guys talked to Dave ( or David) at stillen today. He stated that it is from friction of it being mounted wrong... let me explain... if the lip isn't installed correctly then it will be pushed down causing the lip to give way in the middle like it has for us.
The solution he gave me. Use a heat gun and the lip should go back to original shape or bring it to a body shop and have them put it in the oven. If I had any other problems please contact him. I asked him if I can use different bolts and he told me yes. Go ahead and use ones with washers n nuts for a more secure lock. Also MAKE SURE you use that 3m adhesive **** lol. |

Does anyone ever just go 'Y'know what? Maybe we f'd up...' and make it right anymore? |
Ha not stillen. Stupid business model, destined to go fail in the near future.
|
I agree... This many people with the problem and we all installed it wrong? And that lip fit well and pretty tight, I'm not sure how it can be mounted that much differently
|
We all magically installed it IDENTICALLY wrong then... With the hardware supplied...
Gimme a break. The mounting is not the problem |
I just installed this lip a few days ago, fits well, and there is ZERO chance of installing it wrong unless you stick it on the the rear bumper? I used much larger screws, only the little ones for the ends. I will reinforce mine to forego the sagging, I love this lip, its only been on a few days and the positive comments are plentiful. honestly, even if the did nothing else than fix the future version, I am fine with that, being in the service industry I realize designs and products are not perfect, thus a flaw was found, so fix it, we already have the product, all we can do as a group is forewarn potential buyers. The Z market must just be too small to care about...

stillen's top notch customer service! haven't heard anything but horrible reviews from them for quite a while now. well, guess the lip will just sit in my garage for the time being.
|
i'm just over them playing dumb and telling customers its mounted wrong. being proactive and doing something about it would only be right to all the z owners that essentially made that company what it is

Stillen won't really call you back unless you're wanting to buy something from them.

If we could figure out the saggin issue, I have to admit that Stillen front lip has got to be the best and cleanest looking front lip for Z. I love mine. Now I am going to Home Depot to get some Aluminium Embrace to prevent sagging. I am thinking of using Glue Nails...What does everyone think? |

to sag. You are less flexible to sagging because you painted yours an if it sags your paint will probably crack. |
Ill be planning my anti-sag kit this weekend haha, I do not want to use the support rods, most likely will go the aluminum + epoxy, it just seems that is adding weight to a sag prone area might avoid the middle sagging but will the whole lip slat forward over time...hmmm, which would make the support rods necessary..

It was starting to sag already... re formed it with a heat gun. I curved the front of it with my grinder too so it forms right to the curves of the lip in the front. I can always redo it if it does not work. I post a few pics later. |
Just an update on my fix. The aluminum strut came un-epoxied today. Pretty sure it had to do with me smacking a curb (or as the English say, 'kerb') a few days ago. Too much flex for the epoxy to hold.
Since it's about time to park it for the winter, I'll pull the bumper and come up with a better fix during the dark months. |

I have to say, after having problems with Stillen more than a decade ago (300ZX parts) that they have not changed a bit. This is the same thing they have always done, nothing is their fault, blame the customer, delay, delay, delay...
|
I've emailed them about this same issue weeks ago... never got a reply. :|
