nissan emblem took paint off!!
 

decide to take off the nelson (dealership) emblem off of the right rear bumper. heated it just alittle with my heat gun. pealed off just fine. i then took some goo gone and started to wipe... when i was done alittle bit of paint was missing. can i simple touch this up? will it be noticable? and or will my full warranty cover something like that. guyz please let me know thanx.

Take pics - how are we supposed to tell you if you can touch it up. Little paint is subjective lol...

Modify your story that it fell off...but no since you caused it it wont help you

You did quite a bit of damage there. Probably got it too hot. I'd have that fixed professionally..

what? u mean paint the whole bumper?

Maybe $200 if they can spot repair it. It's got to be feathered in, painted and blended, then cleared and polished. More to do the whole bumper. Next time you do this, just leave it in the sun for awhile and cut the emblem off with dental floss or fishing line. Heat and prying ripped the paint off. Get a professional estimate.

I have a question though, he removed a "dealership sticker," which therefore is not part of the original car. Could the dealership be blamed though for adding this sticker/emblem to the car?

Quite simply... no.

I had the dealership remove the sticker themselves with me inspecting it after as a condition of me buying the car. I refuse to advertise for them.


But back on topic, I doubt they will do anything. This looks like an out of pocket expense unfortunately.

I hate that for you! I can only imagine how sick you are. When I took mine off I made a very slight scratch and I cant seem to see anything but that little scratch!! I took the car today to a local body shop (best in town), he basically said it would be worst to try and fix it than to leave it alone. That no one but me would ever notice it. He is right, but I can't stand knowing its there. Also a little off topic, but while I was there I asked could he fill the hamburger indentions and paint. Again he said it would be a bad idea, something about a plastic bumper and bondo. Could end up cracking and looking worst.
But anyway I know how you feel, just bite the bullet and get it fixed.

I didn't have any issues taking mine off. Did anyone use floss to take theirs off? That's what I did followed by adhesive remover and wet rag.

You ever heard of a sharpie, or some gloss black spray paint....LOL, j/k bro.

I used to be a car salesman here in the Los Angeles area--> Lakers=#1, anways, yeah, dealerships in S. Cali do not put those stupid, indelible, "this person bought it from here" stickers on their new cars. That is so wack.

I'd go back to the dealership, talk to those in the chain of command starting from the bottom: salesman-->his/her closer-->deskman i.e. salesmanager-->general sales manager-->general manager

If your dealership is a reputable one, then you shouldn't have to go any futher than the salesman. He'll most likely work something out for you via the dealership's body shop. And it should be free. Just explain tactfully, but without sounding defensive or blaming, that you didn't want the dealership mark, and you did what you did. Be honest and they'll most likely fix it for you free because they'll want you to spread word that the dealership is good to its customers, and this good word of mouth will bring more business, and the likes. Peace out.

That's a good move. I would leave the dealership's license plate frames on when you take it to them so it looks like you are still willing to do some advertising for them.

I absolutely hate the dealership putting stickers on their cars. The only car I like it on is Cadillac, because they match the Cadilllac script and it is sort of a tradition from the 1950s, when buying a Cadillac was a big deal and the dealers were much more prestegious.

+rep for that I told them that I will not take delivery of the car if it has ANY advertising, even the license plate frame. Unless they want to pay me $200 a month to advertise for them.

same here....i wanted no stickers on the G and no front plate holes in the bumper.....they said they wouldnt dare....lol



to the OP, get it airbrushed, my g was airbrushed yesderday for marks, bird poo stains.....it looks great now, dunno the cost though, it was free

what if i just go to the dealership saying that the paint chipped off when i went to wash it at the car wash. would that be covered in the bumper to bumper warranty. a "factory" defect maybe?

Don't resort to lying and fraud. Anyone looking at the damage will know what happened. You screwed up, admit it, get it fixed and move on..

just go there and say the damn dealer emblem took my paint off....which shouldnt have been on the car in the 1st place !!!

For years now, when I've bought a new car (and I've purchased quite a few over the past 35 years) I've told the dealer that if he wanted to advertise his dealership on my car he had better be prepared to write me a check for every month his stupid emblem is on the car.

If I'm ordering a car and they put a stupid dealer emblem on it after it gets there I won't take it (and I've had to walk away from one deal for that very reason)...if I find a car I like and the emblem is already on there I tell them to take it off and if I see any evidence at all that the paint was damaged they loose the sale (I've had to demand that more than a couple of times but they did a good job taking the emblem off).

I realize that doesn't help you with your current problem and I'm sorry you have to deal with this on a brand new car but I too would recommend you have a good body shop repair the damage and just suck it up because ultimately you caused. But for everyone else/future buys I recommend my approach (unless you like dealer emblems on your car). :)

It does not look like heat damage to me, but rather as if a tool, blade, or scraper penetrated the paint while lifting off the the dealer's sticker.

I believe you've had all the "advice" you can stand presently; I'd just like to say "Sorry for your loss, and good luck with the repair arrangements."

got a quote... $330. thats with me taking off the other badge and bringing the bumper to them. i might just shift the 370z emblem to the other side to cover up the damage. or get a fairladyz emblem. sigh...

I would pay the 330.00 in a heartbeat! Peace of mind is worth it. I was prepared to pay that for my one little tiny scratch!

Gather some other bids too. Also, the metallic paint "flop" can be tricky without the rest of the car present, and just the bumper fascia.

Yeahhhhh.....thats what happens when you dont warm that pesky glue up enough and just rip the emblem off. Sorry, dude. Gotta be careful.

Best bet would've been to have the dealer remove it before the purchase. That kills me they put a sticker on to begin with.

Dealer took mine off for free. You should have made its removal a condition for closing. Get your beautiful car professionally repaired and enjoy. Next time you'll know.

Damn, that sucks. Hope you can fix it. I'm so glad we don't have to deal with those horrible dealer stickers here in Cali.
