Are there any differences in mounting between the two? Can a Nismo rear just fit pretty much the same on a non-Nismo or will there be any modifications required?

You need a special bracket so it doesn't sag. It's around 100 bucks

^ yep, and you can use all the rest of the parts of your old bumper. You also need some fender gap liners too.

Rear bumper parts:

• Rear bumper - HEM23-1A47H ($820.42)
• Rear Fender Liners (left and right fenders) - H5064-1A47A / H5065-1A47A

Note: Nissan calls the fender liners "protectors." (EA $94.42)

• H5249-1A30A (Bracket - this is used in the middle of the rear bumper. It is different than the stock bracket) ($94.93)
• Six screws 01451-00841 ($1.14)
