I don't know how many coats of paint there are but I can tell you that there is an average amount of paint on them. I had a 370Z at my house last week and took a digital measurement of the paint, and it was very consistent at around 5 mills thick. Most paints I measure are between 4.5 to 5.9 mills thick. I tested a black 370Z and found the paint to be quite soft. The blue one which I measured was not as soft.
