Nissan 370Z Forum

Well my car won't start, key reader warning is on...

I'm thinking of visiting a dealer to see a 2012 and see what's changed in regards to the steering lock.

The change is that there is no actual lock for the steering column.

That's why Nissan needs to reflash our ECU for us other guys and do away with the hole unit.

That's interesting because this is a totally viable, yet cheap option in terms of mass recalls on the part of nissan.

i'd be interested in seeing if you can turn the steering wheel on the 2012 with the engine turned off...

maybe they're using new ECU parameters that monitor the steering the same way that the locking mechanism would to prevent any tampering?

part of the steering lock is for safety... like physically locking the steering wheel from turning for parallel parking on hills and stuff. ive heard of electronic e-brakes taking over steering lock safety feature. TRW makes stuff like that. kinda doubt the 2012 has that? be quite a dramatic change imho.

I am trying to track down a contact I have at Nissan. But as of yet no! I am running non stop all day so don't have much time!! I do indeed have to pursue this. If I get any new info I will definitely post.

It's a recall~just visit ur dealership and they should replace the relay. It's on the TSB bulletin part in the forum as well. IMO if you do care about your car, please check TSB all the time.

This is the TSB u should look for in the TSB bulletin.

A TSB is not a recall. Do you know if they mentioned Campaign status?
