The front bumper is a one-piece with some back covers at the fang inlets. The black piece you are talking about is simply a textured, but unpainted part of the front bumper.

it also covers up the metal bumper and the foam bit.

Ah ok, so it's functional. I was curious but didn't want to take it off and find out I had to put it back on.
Thanks for the insight fellas.

You can't remove it. It's part of the bumper.

I am sure, over time, this piece will get painted body color by body shops that do not know. Just like it was done on the 300ZX Z32...

If so that's a bummer cause it'll look like crap.
I like the people that have painted that entire area black.

The top pic is a carbon fiber overlay, and the bottom pic is painted. They also make a carbon fiber overlay for the area you first questioned.

if you pull the black part hard enough the whole bumper will pull off.

Did anyone have any problems with the fangs? I got mine off of the Zstore and they have a little bit of more carbon fiber on the top that I think needs trimmed down but i'm nervous to cut into them. Also I just got the diffuser and didn't know if I need to apply the silicon that came with it or if I would need to remove my JDM fog and then place it back in after installing the diffuser. Any help would be greatly appreciated guys. Thanks

It also mounts the license plate frame if you're silly enough to use one...
