Z's look so sick with the blacked out roof. It looks terrible on most cars people do it on, but for some reason it looks amazing on the Z.

Here's mine. I'm joining in late, but I would suggest gloss black. It flows so much better with the front and rear windshields. I have 5% tint all the way around with 5% eyebrow on the front windshield. It looks way more aggressive from the front.

Baer383 & Dallaz, the paint looks very good. Dallaz, that is paint right? . I would want the option to revert back and peeling off vinly is going to be much easier than a repaint and trying to color match. If I am 100% happy with vinyl then I may have it painted. I am sure the paint looks a lot better than vinyl.

No sir, mine is also a vinyl wrap. The only way to tell in person is really by the reflections. The guys at Skinzwraps really do a good job. Glad to know it looks indistinguishable from painting it lol

I'm in the same boat as you on this part. But the thing is you won't be disappointed in a wrap. Trust me it looks good. A lot of newer vehicles are adopting this look and come from the factory with a black roof, so it would be hard to say that this would effect resale value even if painted. The only other reason to get it painted in my opinion is if you are worried about the longevity of the wrap and how it will hold up. But for me this was a no brainer because I don't drive it that often and I always have it under a car cover in the parking garage.

Exactly how I was thinking - resale and longetivty. But hey if it wears or gets swirl marks it can just be rewrapped cheaper than a repaint. Mine is always garaged.

Yours and Truerocket11 look so much like paint. I do have a concern and it's the color blend from the roof to rear window and tint %. I live in Cali where tint is frowned on with the law and poo poo. I am running probably about a 30-35 % tint on the rear. Do you think it will blend well?

I am running 20s all around, it looks really dark because of our dark interiors. And over here in New Jersey, tints are not taken lightly either. Passed by a couple of cops already and so far no trouble. 30% should blend well...I don't think it would look like it's continuous, however, it depends on the material you used on your windows and the material you use on the overlay.

Gloss will blend better than a satin or matte with the rear regardless. Im not saying the other 2 look bad at all, cause I've seen quite a few that look great. But say your viewing the car from its side. The transition will go from a shiny window to an un-shiny surface if it's matte or satin, instead of shiny window blending with a shiny gloss, if that makes since. But its just a fact that the darker your window the better it will blend since the wrap is black anyways. I'm not sure about cali, but here there's no limit on tint unless its the front windshield and front driver and passenger windows.

That's exactly why I want to get mine done in gloss black and not flat black. I have 35% tint all around, but may have to get it done darker after getting the roof blacked out.

Guys, thanks for the good info and help. Cali does not care what the rear window tint % is, they do ticket for side windows. Hence two reasons I did not go darker in the rear. One is the blend from the rear to the sides, too much of a difference will leave the entire car looking bad. Second, going with a real dark in the rear always makes it difficult to see out the rear at night.

This is very good info and I will definitely get a sample and look at the type of texture of black and it's finish. Black sounds like the route to go, just need to find the right finish to pai up with my rear and side tints.

So about $100 installed has been the going rate? If batman can get me a sample shipped then I can compare his brand/type/texture/finish to some local vendors. I am probably going to have my clear bra installer do the work. I believe he did his vette awhile back and it it turned out great. He is very meticulous and does clear bra only.

Q: will your sources sell the material only?

Thanks :tiphat:

I actually posted a thread about pricing for this a week ago. Check it out.
