He got all rims and tires for $300 with 75% tread on them, so we tried to cover the rash up with the dip. Nice rims & Tires for the price. Just need a little work |

I just painted my old truck with Plasti-Dip. Well, everything except the passenger side door and quarter panel. I ran out. I'll get some pictures posted up tomorrow. It came out pretty well for me doing it really quickly. It's a 20 year old truck, so I didn't care about doing a careful job.
And as a side note, with the exception of a small rock chip on one of my side mirrors, all of the Plasti-Dip on my Z has held up really well over the past few months. One word of caution if you have it on your car - be careful when waxing. I lifted my buffer up before it was completely done spinning, and it slung wax all over the place. It's a pain to get off the Plasti-Dip. |

I think it turned out shibbtastic! Only did one wheel due to time constraints. |
How is everyone else getting past the Dip / tape issue? Taping out areas hasn't really worked out for me. The heavy coats seal across the tape and then pull the Dip off. What I did for the rims above was to tape everything like normal then used thin electrical tape along the "lines" I wanted then after every coat I removed the electrical tape while Dip was still wet. It worked real well, got sharp lines but it was tedious to reapply the tape after each coat dried.
Any other ideas? I actually did a lil R&D and tried spraying stuff on the painters tape and Pledge worked the best but the feasibility of not getting Pledge on the stuff you want Dipped seems dim. |

Here's the best way to do it. Or just don't do it at all if that area is such a big problem. |
that's not what he meant
|
he's trying to mask an area, in this case the wheels, so that he only plastidips what needs to be blacked out... when the tape is removed it takes with it part of the edges.. Emblems are easy since you don't really have to mask, just spray and remove excess.

That's what he did. Peeled while wet..
|
Great info! I was able to do the emblems and my stock rims (to see how the car will look before i spend big $$ on the blacking out the rims)!
Thanks for putting this up!!:tiphat: |

it doesn't matter what the tape is or how sticky it is.. the issue is the plastidip creating coats across the tape and onto the part that you are painting

I will try to do a lil better when it stops raining here!
It is actually kinda tricky to know where to draw the line between spoke and rim since every thing is so neatly blended in. |

I used the electrical tape cuz I have found that it doesn't like to "really" stick to blue painters tape all that well and it is more flexible than blue painter tape.
One more pick... http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6240/...4f5943753f.jpg Dreary day by DufDaddy17, on Flickr Like said its been dreary here since I finished the two wheels. |
Cool what you did and I respect it fully, I just can't stand chrome lipped black wheels!! My fave is definitely double spoked gun metal. Like 5+ spokes but the spokes are double spoked.

Introducing the new Plasti Dip Enhancers! | Plasti Dip International
I just saw this on the PlastiDip website.....Gloss!!! |
for the ppl that plasti-dip the door handles, how are they holding up??
|
Im thinking about doing the door jams tbh, mine are already getting scratched to hell from dirt that gets in there. Also, any word on what it might look like on a window, thought about doing those little tiny ones on the inside.
