are you guys removing the extra plasti dip after the 4 hours of final drying or right when you're done spraying?

Do you mean overspray? I wipe it off after about a minute or so when it has a little bit of time to dry.

Not sure if this has been mentioned, but it helps if you put a small piece of tape inside the enclosed portions of the emblems for some added protection when removing the plastidip inside with toothpick, etc.
Also, when I did my emblems, I had a decent amount of spray back even though it wasn't windy. Be generous when taping off and covering.

Nice!

RoshDawg 08-24-2011 04:22 AM

TongMan 08-24-2011 08:20 AM

Red and clear both available here.

TheGreatOne 08-24-2011 11:49 AM

Have to find a Home Hardware around here

I'm sold on picking up some cans to try stuff. I see some people have done it to their rims. I won't do it to my Z rims, but I've been telling the wife her BMW would look sick with black rims...she refuses to buy some lol

I'm thinking I'll spray them with this as it can be removed. I guess its just going to be a long task if I need to scrape it off? Shes on a business trip next week...haha...surprise!

fxroar 08-24-2011 11:51 AM

How do you think this is going to look on 40th? Possibly the fang and rear valence? I've seen plastidip on Yellow, Red, Blue, White and they look amazing! I just don't think it will give enough contrast to my liking.

I hear you, I'm considering the rear valance also, but I think on the 40th, best way to get contrast is with Carbon Fiber :) Subtle but still noticible

I got the CF Fangs and Upper Trim up front...Rear CF costs lots more and EVO-R is out I think...

fxroar 08-24-2011 03:03 PM

So if I do this.. I would have to include "PlstiDip" in my signature. I'm not sure if I am ready for that. :rofl2:

Yeah I'd love to have CF all over, but gets pretty expensive. I don't want to keep touching my supercharge funding lol

gloss black looks great on a 40th

Yeah I can see that.:yum:

If theres only a way I can use that plasti dip and make it glossy.. just in case I get tired of it or maybe go a different route.

TheGreatOne 08-24-2011 03:59 PM

Gloss black roof on the 40th's is a nice touch from what I've seen

I tried the plasti-dip on my stock 18"s last night. Stuff is so easy to take off but doesnt really scuff that easily with rocks, chips, etc...

Let me know what you think of the rims. I will eventually get nice 19"s or 20"s but this is it for now.. $$$$

TongMan 08-24-2011 04:57 PM

Looks good like always!!

happytheman 08-24-2011 07:18 PM

So what exactly does the clear do when sprayed over areas that have been sprayed with black plasti dip? Does it give it a glossy appearance?

I'd imagine not, especially considering how cheap this stuff is. But if it does then this stuff would be the ultimate clear coat....

370ZNISMO#704 08-25-2011 12:20 AM

Hey if any one wants to check out my pictures I did my nismo wheels a different style with the plasti dip and did all of my emblems and door handles check it out let me know what u think... Love this stuff..

I did a image search for clear plastidip and found a couple pictures.

Looks like it comes out rather cloudy and textured.

Or did you mean a proper clear coat?

happytheman 08-25-2011 06:43 AM

Cool, thanks for doing the search! I think I'll bypass using the clear. I really would like a glossy look to any bits that I spray, and with the matte look of the Plasti Dip...I think I'll just paint 'em proper.

OR you could spray the clear plasti-dip, then spray whatever color you want, then spray clear coat over that. Then peel off when you're done.... Man this stuff rocks....

happytheman 08-25-2011 06:03 PM

I'd like to see a visual representation of a successful spray and removal of that very situation, good sir!

I've been curious about it too. I bought some glossy black car enamel as well as some glossy clear coat. I just sprayed the underside of my wheelbarrow with three coats of black plastidip, and three coats of the glossy black enamel. I'm about to put on the clear coat.
When it's done I'll take pictures of what it looks like as well as the removal process.

butdamnbrian 08-25-2011 06:31 PM

i've read somewhere that spraying a clear coat over the plasti-dip makes it more difficult to peel off... has anyone mentioned that here yet?

looking fwd to the wheelbarrow pics! haha

Juruki 08-25-2011 07:24 PM

plasti dip is really hard to remove if you paint over it. Even if you do thick coats its breaks off in small pieces. If you do thin coats it would be very almost impossible to peel off.

zentropy 08-25-2011 07:26 PM

I plastidipped my emblems last week and the lower part of the rear valence this morning. Thought the matte black would give a nice contrast to the glossy black.

Synack 08-25-2011 09:19 PM

I can imagine it getting harder, but it won't be impossible.

My_third_Z 08-25-2011 09:21 PM

I'll let you guys know tomorrow. I did three coats of each product, and will attempt to peel it off.
