Interior split from heat!

So it was about 102 degree today in So-cal, pretty hot for April.
Anyway, I came out of work today to find this. Apparently the interior got too hot and split. :eekdance: I was headed to the dealer to pick up a part, so I talked to the SA. He said he never seen anything like that before. He said he would order a replacement panel and it would take about 5 days. He never mentioned warranty though, I'm assuming this would be covered, right?

Wow, I have never seen anything like that before. It was 95º up in San Francisco area today so we are getting the same heat wave and I had my car parked outside, now I am going to be worried.

Let us know what the dealer does about it, you should be covered.

What are you using for vinyl protectant? Thanks.

Sure as heck not too happy to see this happening!

Holy shhh... I'm about to pick up my car tomorrow, and this is something I've never imagine happening during the 6 years ownership with my 350Z.

We had a high UV today down here, what's SF's hitting?

Thanks for posting. I was going to hold off on the vinyl protectant since the car is practically new, but looks like I have to do this ASAP. We are still experiencing 40-60 degrees weather here in the jersey but temparature will pick up. BTW, do you have window tint on your car?

arcticreaver 04-21-2009 01:31 AM

autozone near my house had a special, when you buy nxt 2.0 wax you get free meguiars protectant, so i've been using that. i think i used it 3 times already on the whole car.

DJcuetip 04-21-2009 03:39 AM

what do you guys reccommend for the protectant?

DJcuetip 04-21-2009 03:40 AM

ps: sorry to hear mini.. they should cover it.. i hope!

Yes, the good 3M stuff, you think that would have helped a bit, I guess it could have been worse.

My thoughts are maybe the sun was reflecting in the mirror at the right angle and acted like some sort of magnifying glass, which basically intensified the heat. Wonder if that's possible. The area that is split is very thin though, could just be a manufacturing flaw in that one area.

Well, actually I haven't put anything on there yet, didn't think I needed on such a new interior, especially with the UV resistant 3M tint.
I'm not sure any of the protectants would help against extreme heat, do they?

Ha, yeah I saw your car parked outside your work as I was driving to the dealer about 5pm, I almost stopped by, but I really wanted to get to the dealer. :hello:

well, my co-worker and i both use the meguiars protectant, seems to be okay. i don't have a garage at home and sat and sunday was super hot. and i don't have tint to protect the inside from heat.
