Mis-matching color

So, car got hit and I go to New Concept Autoworks body shop to get this fixed because of the Rep they have here in Dallas.

The car is repaired and ready for pick up so I rush down there really excited to get my car back. I have a 2010 Pearl White, which from I hear is impossible to color match. So with this in mind, hoping they would be able to match the color as close as possible I went with high hopes.

I see the car and from what I see, the overall body work is awesome. From really close the paint "seemed to match pretty close" but not as close as I wanted it to. So again, since the Pearl whites are "impossible" to match I accepted the work and left.

Now, for about 2 weeks straight, I noticed everytime I look at the car, the quarter panel that had been replaced seems to be "whiter" than any part of my car. I know that the shades on the plastic bumper and side skirts are going to be a little darker because of how the paint settles with plastic versus metal but the quarter panel does not match the top hatch or the door from certain angles. you visibly see this mismatch at most angles and under most lighting, but if you look directly on the front of the panel the color seems to match.

I am somewhat picky and anal about these things, but the car is still new with less than 10k on the car and it buggs the heck out of me.

My question is... is this acceptable? Do I have to deal with this mis match because the pearl whites are "impossible" to match? I would like to find out if there are any reputable paint shops around here in DFW area that might have enough experience and the talent to fix this mis match for me.

You will have to deal with it unless you arrange to have the whole side of the car painted. It's hard to color match otherwise.

I know how you feel, on my previous car a G35 the passenger door had to be painted and they blended the paint but I could still see the color change and it bothered me a lot. That was one reason I traded it in for my Z. :P

The body shop will just have to keep painting until it's right.

I would try taking it back to the body shop. If it is really noticeable, they may voluntarily repaint the entire side. I know I had some rear fender work done on my Suzuka blue metallic S2000 and they painted the entire side of the car to match it. No extra cost.

The quarter should match almost perfectly if they blended it correctly.. the plastic bumpers are what is harder to match and what you may have to settle with being a SLIGHT bit off

Considering the paint can't be more than a year old, I don't see why they can't get it pretty damn close.

any pict of this unmatched panel?

your other choice would be to have the whole side of the car painted including the door, sill, and fender. white pearls are hard to match... and your rear tire was low on air...

Don't overlook repairing the scrape on the rear wheel. Your car should be restored to its condition prior to the collision.

Hi, I went thru a similar situation recently. I went to several auto paint/supply stores (a few really high end). They ALL said you cannot 'panel paint' and get a perfect match. The paint MUST be blended into the surrounding panels. The shop that did my repairs (not the Z) did so, and you cannot tell that it was repainted. I think any shop worth their salt should have known this and blended. I think you have a legit gripe. Take it back!

they should of atleast blended onto all adjacent panels.thats the only way except repainting whole car to get a close enough match on pearl paint jobs.;

White is so hard to match on these cars. But it can be done.

I'm having an issue with the passenger side quarter panel in my Z as well.. It got hit by a rock and I had the body shop repair and repaint... However, even though the paint color matches perfectly, the finish has started to look more matte than glossy... The door and the hatch have the factory paint and the quarter panel looks same color but more matte red than the OEM glossy red...

When I took it out of the shop it looked perfect but it has lost gloss as time's passed... Could this be a paint-quality issue or is it the shop's fault..?? Maybe they used cheap paint instead of something like Dupont..??

Yeah ill take some shots of the car later on and post them up for you guys.
and yes, the tire was replaced and the wheel was refinished.

I have spoken to some people, and they all say it looks fine.. but Its not. especially yesterday, i went to the blue man show at dallas, and i gave my keys to the valet guy. i was walking up the stairs and was looking directly down at the side of my car and the quarter panel looked so out of place. it really looked like someone took a peice of white paper and covered it. its so weird because if you look directly standing right next to the car you cant really tell the difference.

but from a distance and from certain angles, you can really see it. i hope i just can capture this with just a point and shoot camera.

if this was an accord, it wouldnt really bother me much, but this is a 370z. everything on the car should be perfect in my eyes.

yah, that's the metallic flake orientation playing games on you. this is the same on silvers too... even factory paint looks different between the metal bits and plastic due to this under different lighting...

Someone told me at z club of texas that, from factory, they electro charge the car while they paint so that all the particals aligns the same way and most shops do not "electrocharge" the cars while painting so it will never settle in just the right way when you're looking at the car from an angle.

does this sound right?
