Swapping Stock Spoiler: Nismo vs S-tune vs other?

From what I understand the S-tune spoiler will require new holes to be drilled into the hatch and leave several holes from the sport package model spoiler exposed -- is this correct? How visible are they?

Also, does this same problem hold true for the OEM Nismo spoiler (i.e., NOT the S-tune one)?

Finally, are there any aftermarket spoilers that simply line up with the stock sport package spoiler holes?

Almost any aftermarket (even Nismo or S-Tune) will require new holes and filling so bet on that from the get go.

Ergh... I wsa afraid of that... thank you for confirming. I couldn't find a clear statement of whether this applied to all available spoilers or just the S-tune.

Don't suppose anyone offers a simple soultion for the extra holes like little plugs?

Or would the old holes be so visible that plugs would look terrible?

Heads up. There are four screws to take out the oem spoiler. Make sure all screws are out. The oem spoiler is also has double sided tape. And then it has clips all around. To get the spoiler out you need to push foward and pull up. It was a hassle. You going to have over ten holes exposed. I haven't seen a nismo spolierinstalled but the knock off s tune should cover it up. Seibonhas kit in carbon fiber also.

Okay -- that's the kind of info I was looking for! I don't care if thre are extra holes in the hatch if they aren't exposed. I might even be able to jam a rubber plug in there to prevent water leaking in.

Also, in this thread http://www.the370z.com/nissan-370z-g...t-coupe-2.html it was mentioned that there's some sort of base for the OEM Nismo spoiler (I prefer the S-tune, but I like the Nismo one too), and that this base might cover the sport pack spoiler holes

However -- this user only has a few posts, and no updates since then

Do you know if anyone on here has installed the S-tune and found that the holes were completely covered. I couldn't find a thread on it

Or is it only the knock-off S-tune that will completely cover it? If so, is there a FRP knock off?

Hell, even 99% covered would probably be fine unless you were looking right up under it...

Okay... so, I'm not insane... it isn't clear and there is conflicting info on all of this.

What's the real deal -- not worried about drilling new holes -- but which wings (if any?) cover the factory holes???

Also, how much are the old holes left exposed? Also, anyone thought about developing some paint matched plugs? I've seen these used when rear wiper assemblies have been removed, for example, and they work pretty well.

Looking at the S-tune it will definitely leave two holes exposed -- the ones on either side of the rear brake light. However, two plugs if paint matched could work...

On the OEM Nismo (or a knock-off) I think it should completely cover all the holes, although new ones may need to be drilled, and a few may need to be plugged to prevent leaking, the old holes should not be exposed.

Can anyone confirm all of this?

yes it does cover all of the holes. I just confirmed it with one of my reps.

Basically, to make the S-tune spoiler work without bodywork, we need someone to make two little paint matched plugs...

I've been wanting to put the nismo wing on mine too, but don't want any holes showing. You would think at the very least Nissan would have made the stune spoiler to match the holes left by the sports spoiler. Likely losing sales over this issue.

This is why i bought mine that didn't originally have the stock spoiler installed by the dealer, and had them install the s-tune one upon purchase. I think the s-tune makes the Z stand out more than the stock one. It definitely looks more sportier...

All we really need are two little paint matched plugs tho'...

I know this may require some leg-work, but I think it could produce a win-win situation.

Swap your hatch with somebody that has a base model in your area. They get a sport wing and you have 0 holes in your hatch and are ready to install whichever spoiler you want.

Of course you need to find somebody with the same color Z and DIY would be incredibly helpful for taking off/reattaching the hatch.

You can make your own for about $2.... Pick up the plugs from the hardware drawers at Home Depot or Lowes, paint with touch up and shoot some clear. My GTI had some horrendous holes that these covered pretty well:

Also, when I replaced the spoiler on my old TT, it came with plugs...You can see them here but they were pretty unobtrusive from most angles, being under the spoiler. On the 370, those 2 on either side of the brake light are gonna be in your face..

^^^ Hmm. How large are the bolt holes? I can't imagine it would be all that noticeable.

And a lot less work than attempting to swap hatches or have extensive body work and paint done
