ALL Pearl White Owners - Please Check In!

Wassup fellas! I purchased the Z about 4 weeks ago and when I looked at the car, I noticed the rear bumper color was considerably off. The side skirts and front bumper were a bit off too but not bad. I brought it up to the sales guy and he said its how they come from factory and b/c the bumper is plastic. So i shrugged it off and still bought the car. I came aboard here and read a few threads that this is a common problem among PW Z's. I made an appointment this week to bring it up with Nissan to see if they can respray the parts. I'll keep you guys updated. So if you have a Pearl White Z check in and report if your bumpers match the car!

I would defiantly not let that fly. Bumper was probably replaced. Or even worse the car could have been in a minor collision.

SmoothZ 04-18-2010 10:49 PM

Whoa! I'm usually pretty bad at pics, but that's an obvious difference. Take it back!

Diocletian 04-18-2010 10:49 PM

Wow that's so...bad. I honestly wouldn't have accepted it and would've asked to check out another on the lot to compare.

batman_4 04-18-2010 10:52 PM

my Z's rear bumper paint is off but not that bad.

TacoZ 04-18-2010 11:15 PM

Mine definitely does not look like that. You better take that back!

TX_370 04-18-2010 11:27 PM

My bumpers are fine, but the side skirts are off a bit... i believe there is a long on going thread about this, if you want more input.

supraman626 04-18-2010 11:33 PM

mine is pretty off like that too but i already put on the clear bra so didn't want to deal with it and take up my time. It bothers me from time to time but i think i can live with it. I bought the car at night so i didn't really notice. You can notice it on certain angles and lighting. You can't really notice the difference from far away or really close up. You might notice it 5 feet away. Check out my album if you want to see mine.

Same over here. I can live with it as long as it doesn't get worse. As for the OP's bumper...that's way too major of a difference. I would take it back...and raise hell if they didn't accomodate to fix it.

chuckd05 04-19-2010 12:19 AM

Just bring it in! They will respray it, it's obviusly not acceptable. Read my thread on this ,
mine looked the same way!

gumpy 04-19-2010 01:07 AM

man i'd be mega pissed if my rear bumper was that off...

zmyride 04-19-2010 01:34 AM

definitely the rear bumper was replaced.

my friend has a PW and thats not the color on his bumper.

i think the car was rear-ended when someone testdrove it or someone bumped into it in the car lot.

brakedrift12 04-19-2010 06:59 AM

those are odd things to see. I wonder why Nissan is having weak paint once again. I really do like everything but the paint...

vipor 04-19-2010 07:01 AM

I've seen some off paint, but that's worse than I've ever seen :shakes head:

Grab some day shots at different angles too plz

Caravanshaka 04-19-2010 08:03 AM

thats about how far off my side skirts are. no, the bumper wasn't replaced, they are painted at different times with different batches of paint and a different type of surface being painted, which is what causes the variance in color.

Alexshen1 04-19-2010 08:18 AM

dang man, that's just too much now !

Jacky 04-19-2010 09:35 AM

Eeekk i am interested in getting a pearl white z. Would you know they fix this paint issue for 2010?

vipor 04-19-2010 09:37 AM

I doubt it. Just keep a lookout when you're shopping for your car, and let the dealer know that anything that noticeable will need to be fixed before you take delivery.

j.arnaldo 04-19-2010 10:26 AM

The pores in the plastic are molecularly different, so I'm afraid you're stuck with that deal and Lemmon Laws are weak, so, good luck.

One_Quick_Z 04-19-2010 12:28 PM

Wow that looks bad!

DAN

370Z JT 04-19-2010 01:14 PM

Dang, so it looks like its not very common among Pearl White Z's. I will let you guys know what happens on Wednesday when I bring it in.

fixed

the_student 04-19-2010 01:24 PM

The dim light really accentuates the difference, pretty much the same that is on my car. They were painted at two different times as previously stated. I bought my car in September, it probably is too late. But whatever, no biggie.

How much would it cost to be resprayed?

6spd 04-19-2010 01:34 PM

Holy $hit thats bad, mine are fine, nothing like that at all. You didnt notice that when you bought it?!?!?!

Montez 04-19-2010 02:25 PM

Some of us have no issue, some minor, you major. Hope whomever resprays it gets it looking as good as "new", I definately would not have taken delivery of that!

j.arnaldo 04-19-2010 02:40 PM

...Bridget Regan...sigh...

Took it to Nissan this past Wednesday. They said they will send the photos to Nissan USA and will let me know. What ticks me is that the service manager tried to tell me the color being off is normal!

Parrotguy 04-24-2010 11:21 PM

I have a PW on order, being manufactured this Month, I wonder if Nissan has addressed this issue??

I'm more worried that its a match or reasonably close to a match, but then over time it gets worse - when your less likely to get the dealer to do anything about it. I've had several motor homes, and it is really noticeable as the unit ages. The paint matches day one but because of the different materials underneath, the paint ages differently and changes shade. Its really noticeable with white.

Has anybody seen the color difference get worse with age?

6spd 04-25-2010 12:17 AM

I looked at an old PW 350z in a parking lot the other day and it looked fine, just a tad bit off, the usual. Had to be at least 4-5 years old.

370Z JT 04-26-2010 09:35 PM

Update:

Got a call back from Nissan today and they will pay for my front and rear bumpers to get resprayed.

Bad news is I have a clear bra on the front bumper that is less than 2 weeks old! Grrrr!

Caravanshaka 05-20-2010 09:05 AM

Nissan paid to have my sides resprayed as well. Went from about 5-6 shades off to about 1 shade, which makes me a lot happier

drdre8424 05-20-2010 03:29 PM

im pretty sure everything match on the car, but when i leave work ill check it out.

ChrisSlicks 05-20-2010 04:50 PM

My plastic parts don't match the metals parts perfectly either, but you can only tell in certain lighting. Doesn't really bother me.

370Z JT 05-20-2010 07:14 PM

Yea I got my car back 3 weeks ago. The white matches perfectly, but now the pearl in the paint doesn't. Oh well.

If you guys take it back to the dealership and complain, I don't think Nissan will turn you away. I think its more of a customer service/satisfaction issue. They want to keep their customers happy.

USAFstevo 06-05-2010 05:17 PM

ok i just bought a pearl white Z and my bumpers and side skirts are WAY WAY off especially my rear bumper. Ive already talked to Nissan USA and they said they are going to call the dealer and get back to me in the next few days. I was very polite over the phone but now im worried I down played it by being too nice, im kinda freaking out so for those of you who had they're cars resprayed can you please let me know anything that will help me in my dealings with Nissan USA and help me to get my bumpers resprayed? Thanks for the help everyone!!!

ncheung85 06-05-2010 05:31 PM

Not sure. I took the advice of chuck and took it straight to the service manager. Snapped some photos, and three days later got a call from the serv manager that the claim was approved.

USAFstevo 06-10-2010 10:31 AM

ok so my service manager agreed with me and called nissan saying that it needed to be repainted but nissan usa said no, they said that this is a common problem because of the parts being painted at a different plant and they were not going to do anything about it. please guys what do I do I havent called nissan usa back yet i just talked to my service manager about it, he told me he would be glad to have my back and that I can mention his name. Please help what do I do guys!?
