Adding Homelink to my car?

Well I was looking to pick up the base model of the 370z (no sports package) Almost everything the sports package gives me I would be replacing so why pay for it if its going to get all swapped out. One thing I was a bit upset about is that the base model doesn't give me the homelink. I mean this day and age you think that would be a standard. Oh well I found out that I can add it. (YAHOO!!!)

Nissan Auto-dim Rearview Mirror (w/ compass & Homelink)

Plus the Installation Instructions are listed on there site also. Very cool and for $260 not bad I can live with that. I just wanted to pass this bit of info. on in case someone else wanted the homelink for there car. I just hate having the garage door open on the visor.

speedworks 02-03-2009 03:16 PM

You can also get that on ebay for $227, same part. I have no affiliation.

Home link

When the Base 370 that I ordered comes in my dealer is going to swap the "Home Link" that is in my 03 350 for the standard one in the 370. That was part of the "Deal" or I would have another dealer order the car for me. He said no problem. Great guy...............
:tiphat:

KameezGuru 02-05-2009 07:07 AM

not a bad deal.

dlmartin81 02-05-2009 11:33 AM

Yeah, good to know. I was wondering about this same thing the other day. Why doesn't the base model come with it installed? I guess things like this is what helps keep the price of the car down.

KameezGuru 02-05-2009 12:21 PM

Man, this day and age it should just be standard on any car. But at least I can add it. I am a few folks that are buying the base model to track so they dont care about it. This is problem solved. Now need my L.S.D. issue taken care of. :D

albertu 02-05-2009 12:27 PM

I'll try to retro fit the one from my old car.

350Z EC Mirror Installation Instructions (page 1 of 4)

Found install manual. It exactly like the one I'm having now.

zero610 02-19-2009 01:01 PM

Did anyone here end up adding homelink to their base 370Z? If so, how hard was the install? Were the Courtesy instructions clear and easy to follow? Any info would be helpful.

Skorch 02-23-2009 02:36 AM

I'm also looking to do this when my Z arrives in 3 months. Thanks for sharing the info!

Trolling222 03-05-2009 10:42 PM

I just received my homelink mirror. Has anybody installed one yet. Is it easy, or should i bring it to the dealer for $100. thanks

AK370Z 03-05-2009 10:48 PM

I'd recommend you guys getting it from our sponsor

Trolling222 03-05-2009 10:57 PM

I already got the mirror from the dealer I got my car from. they gave me 20% off $282 - 56 = $226. I was just trying to find out if it is an easy install or i should pay the dealer $100 to do it

ArtVandaleigh 03-16-2009 11:56 AM

I'm thinking of doing this myself too, anyone do a install/writeup yet for the 370?

dcrew1x 08-06-2009 07:22 PM

i'd also be interested in this.

xodus 08-24-2009 09:10 AM

I know this is an older thread, but has anyone had this mirror installed on their base model Z yet?

Thanks for the link.

NewYorkJon34 08-24-2009 10:56 AM

I had Nissan install it for me, & I hooked my radar up to it. It's def worth buying :)

2ZORNT2Z 08-26-2009 10:57 PM

Mike - You say 20-minutes in the other thread. Seriously? Including disconnecting the battery, pulling and reinstalling trim and all?

NewYorkJon - If you wouldn't mind, how much did the dealer charge for the install for us not so savy types?

NewYorkJon34 08-26-2009 11:10 PM

It wasn't cheap, they charged me $400 for the mirror & install. I'd say don't fuss with it, and just let them install it, it def is a cool part, it has a digital compass on it, it dims with changing light conditions, I hooked my radar up to it, and it opens my garage door pretty quick.

Seriously, 20 minutes. I didn't disconnect the battery, and only had to remove 3 pieces of trim and pull the door weatherstrip back.

Isn't this the same thing? You can probably save a bunch by getting a used one.

yep, you would have to make your own wires, but thats fairly simple to save $200.

sterfry 08-29-2009 07:32 AM

Another option is the Flash2Pass system. A small transmitter mounts under the hood and taps into the high beam wires. The receiver replaces the garage door opener switch in the house/garage. You flash your high beams twice and the garage door opens or closes.

Flash2Pass

Doh! Thanks. :D. Was looking at the wrong model while comparing ebay mirrors...

I think I'm going to get one too. So a newb q on programming it... I have a G35C that has homelink and programmed. I thought you had to reset the garage door after you send the signal to it to program (has rolling codes).

How do I maintain the homelink rolling code on the G? Do I need to reprogram that car again when I program the Z?

Mike 09-20-2009 11:51 AM

you will be fine, it will still know the G and any other openers that are programmed.

the kit includes harness and the harness cover. i think it was called Genk45a or something.

Mike 09-21-2009 07:02 PM

that I don't know, as I bought mine from nissan. It mounted on the original metal wedge that is attached to the windshield.

kenchan 09-21-2009 07:06 PM

yah, i guess i'll find out soon enough... :D

will keep you guys posted...

kenchan 09-23-2009 06:24 PM
