Default Preventing hail damage

Hail storms are right around the corner, Spring always brings them
in TX.

To help minimize/prevent hail damage I check weather watches and
warnings regularly. If a hail storm is probable I have my blankets ready
(in the back of the car, or where I can grab them quickly). I run out and
place the blankets over the car with the first sign of hail.

Any other ideas to prevent hail damage when covered parking is not an
option (at work for example)?

This is not a bad thread and it references a car cover company too: Is there a car cover that can prevent hail damage?

Not bad really, if you've priced some of the higher-end car covers this is reasonable.

thats amazing, never even knew those existed, we had one bad hail day here late last year and it destroyed 20% of the cars in the city, thank god I was out of town that day. I also live in an apartment w/o a car port, so this thing would definitely come in handy.

usually it gets pretty damn windy in hail storms so if you can put the blanket and a carcover over it, it would be best. probably best to have your friend or wife help you.

I sent this message (below) through the hailblankets.com website over
a week ago and haven't heard anything. Anybody know the answer?

"Hi,

After using the blanket, the blanket will be soaked and
will need to be washed and dried. What are the washing
and drying requirements for the hail blankets? Will I be
able to meet these requirements by using my home washer
and dryer?

Thanks in advance for your prompt reply,"

Still no answer from hailblankets.com concerning washing requirementst. If you use
the blanket to protect your car from hail you're going to have a soaking mess of a
blanket afterwords and your going to have to wash it. The question is, what are the
washing requirements (dry clean? machine wash ok?)?

Too bad hailblankets.com doesn't have a responsive customer service dept.
What about you guys, anybody here bought from hailblankets.com?

OKC got grapefruit size hail dumped on them yesterday afternoon/evening...

I don't think there's a blanket in the world that will protect your car from that =/

My thought is that if you use a hail blanket,

1) You have to have it with you and your car
2) You have to put it on during the hail storm, which many times, only happens after it's already pretty damn bad out...and hail that hurts your car, will hurt you too...
3) All that water, mentioned in #2, will get all over you, and your car, since most people won't carry their hail blankets with them
4) I'm sure the hail blanket will scratch...
5) I'm sure the hail blanket, once soaked, will weigh a LOT, which means you won't be able to remove it, without scratching and getting it dirty and other crap in it.
6) While it's soaked, you won't want to put it in your Z, else it will in turn get soaked on the inside, moreso than even when you opened the rear hatch to pull out said blanket
