Just ordered a 48" x 48" roll... ricey goodness to follow.
I read 3M's product doc on the Di-Noc products, and apparently the vinyl texture on the doors is compatible with the film. It's only stuff like stucco walls and the like that are too textured to have the Di-Noc adhere properly. Since the doors are relatively smooth and actually flexible, it should work fine. Will report back. I think we'll give a go and pre-cutting the material and wrapping the door panels while they're still on the car first. If that fails, we'll take them off and separate them out into components to wrap. |
btw, wat did you do to the door that you need to cover up? :D

Don't ask. lol |
I want your door sill templates, right meow! lol
|
lol, thanks. :D
yah, it's a long piece so i can't scan it... i had to use 2 letter sized paper lenghts to make the template. i like how it tones down the LOOK AT ME HERE! factory illumiated titanium color. |
Those look real nice...
So I had good luck with some interior pieces and the B pillar covers, but the vinyl on the front fang/lip has bubbled up after its first hot day outside. Any tips? I'm kind of feeling like just leaving it (looks horrible now around a few radii) and picking up a real CF cover, but I don't like the added thickness of those. |
thanks. :D
the DiNocs can breath air so i would push down on the bubbles and heat it again with a heatgun until it doesnt bubble up. dont heat it too much cause it will change color. if it's near the edge i would recommend cleaning your hand with some rubbing alcohol and peel it back, take the air out, and apply it back onto the fang. |
Bought some to put on my door handles - seemed easier than getting them painted black (to match Magenetic Black exterior). If it doesn't work out, I'll just get them painted anyway.
Volume area on my steering wheel is already black? |
Tried doing the keyfob as a test and I think it is harder than most others :)
First time wasn't bad, need to redo it as made the back a little short on one half and the key piece was a little small. Any suggestions on how to handle where it bunches up on the back after curving around both sides? I may try getting it to bunch up where the notches are and cutting it there. |
Looks good Ken

Wilson you might want to use heat and pull just enough and spread just enough not to wrinkle. Its a little tricky when the object you're wrapping has contour. |
Thanks, kenchan.
The contour works well, the problem is the back (sharper) end - after wrapping a flat piece around the sides, there is excess material that bunches at the back. I tried cutting a V out, but that didn't really work perfectly. |
Hummm... I might give it a try later on. Will keep you posted.
|
i tried the fob... i can wrap it (2pieces, top/bottom) but requires considerable stretching and the CF cells didnt look too good. also it wont fit in the fob slot in the car so not sure if you want to do this or not.
|
The fob is impossible the wrap cleanly, plus it does not look good at all.
|
I didn't think this looked bad:

i think if you used 3 pieces (top, side, bottom) and match the cells perfectly it could look pretty good.
but it might get stuck in the fob slot inside the car so i decided not to do it. i do not want to compromise functionality just for looks. |
I have given up on di-noc. Well, I might order some more CF to wrap part of my PC... but that's it!
|
hahahaha, yah, it does take some patience to use this material effectively. it's not for everything that's for sure (like engine covers~ :icon14: ) :icon17:
|
I'm pretty happy with just wrapping the fangs, b pillars, rear valence. I'm thinking about wrapping the colored part of my side mirrors.

I wouldn't want to do the sides as one piece as it would be hard to change the battery! |
here is supposedly a really good carbon fiber vinyl for a quarter of the price. I think it looks clean:

wilson- becareful cause these fobs are known to get stuck at times...
but the battery will last you a good 3-4yrs... by that time you'll probably be re-doing the DiNoc? :p |

this is where the real 3M DiNoc dry CF are at. Quote:

so i re-did the passenger door handle switch to day so here's a quick DIY:
this is the finished product:  http://www.the370z.com/members/kensa...1-finished.jpg Tools: (emboss heatgun on the left) http://www.the370z.com/members/kensa...08-1-tools.jpg First begin by removing the switch box from the car. Use a interior tool and pull up. There's just tabs, no screws. Then use a small flat screw driver and push into the clip to undo the harness lock. 1. General shape + getting the switch control holes. i used one of my earlier templates to get the switch control holes. the outer lines are just for general shape. http://www.the370z.com/members/kensa...09-2-trace.jpg 2. Cut out the switch control holes...give the corners some radius. http://www.the370z.com/members/kensa...nitial-cut.jpg 3. Position the DiNoc, press down. http://www.the370z.com/members/kensa...-placement.jpg 4. Give it some heat with the emboss heatgun (it's low heat and unlike a hair drier it doesnt blow air that much so easier to use). http://www.the370z.com/members/kensa...al-shaping.jpg 5. Give it more heat and wrap-over to the back side a section at a time. The emboss heatgun stands up on its own so use both hands to work on the wrap. :) http://www.the370z.com/members/kensa...re-shaping.jpg (backside) http://www.the370z.com/members/kensa...-wrap-back.jpg Trim off the excess, apply heat and press onto the switch trim. http://www.the370z.com/members/kensa...-done-back.jpg 6. Done... http://www.the370z.com/members/kensa...015-8-done.jpg http://www.the370z.com/members/kensa...16-9-done2.jpg Now to go your car, connect the harness, place switch control trim into the door. <Important> Turn your car on and do a window reset by pressing down to open the window, hold for 5-10 sec, then roll up window all the way, count 5-10 sec and DONE. |
Bringing back from the dead. Looking on eBay and they have "dry" and "glossy" di noc black cf. You all have used gloss I'm assuming? But the pics don't look all that glossy.
Lmk. Thanks! I'm going to tackle some parts after I future out what to order. I may go with the "dry" one. |
Where exactly are the clips holding the window switch trim?
|
Chuck I'm using matte (dry)
Tungman- pull up the rear flat portion of the sw box up and it should just pull up. Then slightly pull towards the back of the car. Use a hard squeegee or interior tool. |
Btw, after you install the wrapped bit onto the car give it a good shot of heat so that the DiNoc settles in its final position. :)
|
Can you use the carbon fiber wrap that they sell at Autozone?
I dont know the exact sizes and how much they give you, but it looks similar & I want to mess with the product on my door panels Thanks |

I would def go with the 3m DiNoc , i got some on eBay for real cheap and I can't see knock
Offs molding as well as the real thing. Hit it with heat and it gets super flexible and molds and forms to stuff great. |
Anyone put the on the hood of their car? Wont the engine heat, heat up the vinyl? And i was on a site that said this is basically a permanent application.
|
I got it on the hood and it has been fine for me.
