So I got my license plates today..

I received my license plates today.. but I DON'T wanna put them on.

I live in Los Angeles so if I want to put on the back plate, I need to put the front on too or else I'd get a ticket. I don't like how the car looks with a plate on the front

I heard from a source that the only get away from having to put on a front plate is if you buy a new car with a paper tag on your front windshield, and you can ride with that for 6 months without plates(or until you get pulled over)? I don't think tag has a expiration date... Is any of this true? I looked and searched everywhere online and at DMV and it never stated we need to put on our plates within a certain time of receiving it.

How long did you guys drive your new cars without your license plates before you finally decide to put them on?

IDZRVIT 02-09-2010 05:32 PM

Face reality and go put your plates on.

SophiaZ 02-09-2010 05:39 PM

Yea...just put the plates on. It doesn't look bad at all. OR just put it on offcenter on the front bumper or put it in the windshield ( I wouldn't do this only becuz that's not where the plates belong) Or just leave the plates off until you get pulled over 20x and are tired of paying tickets :)

azn370z 02-09-2010 05:41 PM

I put the front plates on the black plastic part of the grill and not over the paint. Looks pretty clean.

topcarbon 02-09-2010 05:50 PM

just do it

Illinois required front plates and I went 7 years without one. But Indiana is next door and they don't require one, so the car did not stick out too much. I got 2 tickets at $20 each when I parked downtown Chicago & O'Hare. But I figured $40 for 7 years was worth it to me....

But I support the local laws of your state. Hi moderators.

nuTinmuch 02-09-2010 05:58 PM

I live in NJ and I don't use my front plates. I've yet to get pulled over or anything for it.

I was able to drive for 2 days and then was pulled over by a cop. He gave me just an warning. Then I went ahead and put it on. You can actually mount it without damaging the front at all. Take a look

http://www.the370z.com/diy-section-d...t-install.html

As for look, there's not much difference. It still looks pretty good. It'll get annoying getting pulled over every time you go out.

Suction cup onto passenger side windshield? In texas as long as its visable, its legal. Not sure about LA

That must have been some time ago, I got a ticket at O'Hare last summer: $50! After that I ordered the Stillen holder, so I can put the plate on when I have to go to the airport or down town Chicago...

topcarbon 02-09-2010 06:03 PM

A lot of my friends that have Lamborghinis and live in states that require a front plate, have a sticker made to look like a plate.

KillerBee370 02-09-2010 06:13 PM

Or.... just don't put your front plate on. I not only hate the way it destroys the looks of the car but I can't stand the premise behind this states blatent excuse for retarted revenue collection. Like we don't have enough already!

I pass many a cop and I have not once been pulled over for no front plate. In the odd occurance that I DO get pulled over let's say, 2 or even 3 times a year (unlikely) for no front plate, then paying the what is it?.... $35 bucks each time won't bother me one bit.

I did get a speeding ticket recently and only AFTER I already signed the ticket AND ONLY because there was another cop walking around the car did he alert the ticketing officer and because I was unloading my usual chipper wit with the ticketing donut muncher, he decided to add no front plate to the charge. Anyway, I drove down to the donut shop, put 2 tiny pieces of velcro on both the plate and my bumper (because I am not about to drill any holes), stuck the plate on, walked in and had the cop come out and sign off the ticket (for the front plate charge). I then proceeded to walk over to my car, rip the plate off, toss it in the front seat and drive off (in full view of the bakers dozen).

So do whatever you want.

PapoZalsa 02-09-2010 06:24 PM

Please, don't remind me again about front plates!

golfgirlrobin 02-09-2010 06:36 PM

It's only a fix-it ticket and nobody's going to pull you over expressly for the purpose of writing a fix-it ticket for no front plate if you've got the rear in place. I carry mine behind the front seat so they'll know I have it.

Assuming you don't get pulled over on a regular basis, put on the rear and don't worry about it. If it becomes an issue someday, deal with it then.

alphaqb 02-09-2010 06:48 PM

Thanks for all your responses.. The holes were already drilled before I even bought the car. I had them take the housing off and they made me sign a waiver, lol.

It's very interesting that some of u went up to 7 years without being pulled over (Island 370) while others got pulled over on the second day (ak370z)! I've been close to 2 months without being pulled over maybe it's because I left my dealer's advertising plate on back there instead of just taking the whole thing off.

I think I will keep driving without plates for a few more months. I'm gonna keep the plates with the registration at home so in case I get pulled over or something I'll just say that I never received my plates in the mail, cause if I had the registration with no plates they can call my BS. :icon17:

Daishi 02-09-2010 06:48 PM

in NJ most things are mandatory court appearance. So if you get ticketed for no front license plate you have to go in to court waste a crapload of time to have your name called then a cop goes with you to see if you put it on.

Same here..I have never ran a front license plate on any of my sports cars and so far, so good. I will be sad if I ever have to put the front one on :(

I've not got pulled over yet without a front one. Best part is the other day I heard they're not required anymore in the front in Illinois.....guvment is trying to save $$$$$$$$$

Yep. Last ticket was ~2005. But I had no plates until I moved in Mar 2009

MidnightRider 02-09-2010 08:40 PM

Well in Louisiana we definitely do not have to put on front plates. Even if I was suppose to I wouldn't. To me it just doesn't look right...

zmyride 02-09-2010 08:44 PM

One red-light camera costs about $400. I figured i would have to get 15 tickets to equal one red-light. I'm keeping my front plate off.

I don't condole anyone running red-lights. Please obey the laws.

Wrong, this is not approved yet, so far it's just a proposal to change the law. Until this has been approved, front license plates are still required in IL.

Red370 02-09-2010 09:15 PM

Dont put it on, completely screws up the frontal look of the car IMHO, its Texas law as well, been driving for 8 months with no front plate and 5% tint all around, if anything, just slide it in the front window on the passenger side.

motoextreme 02-09-2010 09:26 PM

No F'ing way I'm putting a plate on the front! Never have and never will! Big time rebel...HAHAHA

:icon18: Agreed, it just looks out of place on the front, i dont care if I get a ticket or not, i'll tape it to the bumper, pay the ticket, then take it back off!

whatever, like it's not going to pass? Just the same as the tint law that got changed. Cops were up and arms and it still passed. I'll take my chances until then

CBRich 02-10-2010 07:35 AM

+1 for the Stillen.

m4a1mustang 02-10-2010 07:39 AM

VA is pretty anal and I don't think there are any dealerships that will let you take the car home without putting the front plate on... I have had front plates on all my cars so I guess I'm just used to it.

dszombiex 02-10-2010 11:43 AM

I don't like the Stillen, it blocks the front intake.

I lived in Ohio - a state where front and back are required. I decided to move to a state where only the back plate is required - Georgia. Also better roads and weather for my baby - it all worked out great.

Dwight Frye 02-10-2010 08:14 PM

I live in CA which is a front plate required state and have not put a front plate on any of my cars since 1982. I've only had 2 moving violations in that time and neither time was ticketed for missing the plate. I don't think the officers even noticed. However, I did get pulled over for it one time in what was really a chickensh*t move by a cop. I was driving down my street which was near a school. Traffic enforcement was heavy in that area because of the school, and I always drove easy in that neighborhood. A motorcycle officer had a minivan pulled over and was writing a ticket. As I approached the scene, the officer stepped out into the street and waved me over to the curb. I thought WTF I was doing less than 25 MPH. He finished writing the other ticket and then came up and wrote me a fix it ticket for no front plate. I put the plate on, paid something like a $20 fee and took it off again after the police station signed off on it. I refused to buy my previous G35 and my 370Z if they had holes drilled or plates mounted. I'll take my chances. Now I'm also near 55 years old and don't drive like an idiot so my chances of being hassled are low.

Bunch of conformists in here telling you to put your plate on. I say, fight the power. Don't let the man bring you down.

Haha, I agree with Frost :iagree: I live here in Cali in los angeles and I haven't put on my front plate for almost 10 months now. Even when I got pulled for my tint cop didn't say anything about my front plate. If you live in an area where other nice cars drive around without it maybe you might get away with it, but, if your car sticks out like a sore thumb then it's your call. Good Luck
