All I know is that the salesman told me the car had one before I bought it. I don't see how this is any different than the car arriving with rims but no tires and then being told I have to pay extra to have them put on.

Your salesman flat out lied to you then, the 2009 never came with the filter installed. It was added to the 2010 models as a new feature, but the 2009 owners found the 2009 had the slot for the filter and are adding it themselves.

Yup, or he was just plain Uninformed (what a surprise!). Nothing in the literature, window sticker, or service book mentions this as being standard equipment like it is on the lowly Cube and other models....

But in his defense almost all new cars these days come with a cabin air filter, so it's reasonable to expect one to be there.

It was really just stupid of Nissan to hold out on us 2009 owners.

:iagree:....but for a measly $15 we've solved that omission...

Picked up my STP CAF1766 from AutoZone tonight. I'll be installing it this weekend.

Thanks for all the great info guys.

But the 2009 service manual does mention it being replaced, so is it too big of a stretch to assume that this means that at least one of the 2009 versions is supposed to come with it? Let's say for a moment that the service manual mentioned "Service turbocharger at 12 months"... it wouldn't be unreasonable to assume that this means Nissan put a turbocharger in one of the models, right?

Yes (it's a stretch)....Look at the footnote reference beside that entry (page 19) and read the fine print it refers to (on page 18)...It's a generic 2009 Service and Maintenance Guide (Used for all models) and clearly excludes the 370 from the cabin filter replacement schedule (unless OPTIONALLY installed)

Give it up!

Yup. We would have had to change the factory filter at some point anyways, so no big deal!

Ah, the fine print will get you every time, won't it? :owned:

Great writeup's guys. Let us know if you notice any difference in using the HVAC now (blower strength, smell etc...)

semtex 02-04-2010 09:05 AM

Having the HVAC air filtered is good and all, but I think it'd be really cool if there was some compartment in the bottom seat cushion that we could insert a charcoal filter into. Then I could fart with abandon and not have to deal with the aftermath so much. I mean, it's hard to drive safely when I have tears streaming from my eyes. (j/k)

LOL. I've seen those. I was just joking around guys. I seldom fart in the car. Unless it's my wife's car and she's driving. Then I do it just to annoy her.
