Default Adjusting rear hatch latch or actuator

I recently installed a 2014 nismo rear spoiler on my sport. Due to the extra weight of the nismo spoiler it takes a couple on pushes of the button while slightly lifting of the hatch to get the latch to release. With the sport spoiler it would release first time, everytime.

I figured it was the struts not beind strong enough to provide the initial lifting force so I ordered a set of the Z1 super heavy duty struts. It still does the same thing with the new struts. Also, my hatch didn't come with the counter weight installed or I would have taken that out.

Does anyone know if there is an adjustment on the latch or actuator that might fix this issue?

The nickles in the bumper* trick might work.

*I can't remember the name of the part but it pushes the hatch up when opening. One one each side.

Interesting. Let me know if you think of it. I'll try google, see if something comes up.

I figured it out. The nismo hatch uses longer helper springs. I took the ones off my spare nismo hatch and installed them. Works great now.

For those that do not have those Nismo springs, I just glued these to the car at the point where the springs touch the body of the car.

Yep, that's what I was looking to do. I did some more research and found out that the sport spring and nismo spring assembly are the same. All that they did was add a 1/4" thick spacer at the bottom of the rubber boot to make it a little longer. It can easily be done with washers on even a couple of nickels.

My nismo boots were torn so I popped the boots off my sport spring assembly, put the nismo spacers in and pulled the boot back up. The sport boot is a little shorter so I used a c-clamp to compress the spring while pulling the boot up and over the lip of the spring assembly. Added a little super glue just to make sure they don't pull back down. They look like brand new nismo spring assemblies now.
