There are some indentations that aren't completely covered, so you will probably want a backing of some sort. I chose a black backing with mine. And I ended up painting

There are some indentations that aren't completely covered, so you will probably want a backing of some sort. I chose a black backing with mine. And I ended up painting both the emblem and the backing to match my car color. I'm sure you could find something else to use as a backing or possibly even just paint the CF one it comes with (or peel off the CF and then paint it).
