Unhappy 2017 Z got rear ended

Just happened today on a heavy traffic highway. My baby with FI exhaust and CF rear diffuser. The Honda insight 2000 driver was on his phone and a veteran.

I called his insurrance to file a claim. They said they will call back Monday to get more info.

So basically there is license plate mark on the rear bumper with 2 holes from the 2 screws and the rear diffuser cracked. I do want to convert to a Nismo rear bumper. The insurance company has to pay for the broken diffuser too correct? It was an additional $350-400. I dont think there is any damage to the exhaust (i hope).

Do I go to the Nissan dealer to get appraisal since they have multiple auto body shops around town (Coggin Jacksonville)

😢😢😢

depends..some insurances dont cover any aftermarket parts so if you havent bought a special coverage, you will only get reimbursed for the cost of the stock part.

Glad you’re not hurt; as mine rolled at least once-leaving me with broken disc & pelvis.
Sometimes “New” oem parts cost more than aftermarket ones.
Inspect exhaust really good/ as I’m sure if tips are bent; the cost of an oem muffler wouldn’t be cheap...+ cost of “New” rear bumper cover + painting it.
Just glad you’re ok.

Holy crap! Not to hijack bangity's thread but jeesh, first I'm hearing of that JCHammond.

As for the OP, I could've added more on my first post... Yes glad you're ok, fortunately the driver that hit you was insured. I had this same thing happen memorial day last year and the driver ran and had no insurance. Progressive insurance is useless in a case like this, but did learn most insurance companies only cover factory replacements.

That would only apply if he made the claim with his own insurance company.
If the accident was someone else's fault, their insurance company has to pay to fix any damage regardless of whether the parts are stock or not.

In my experience aftermarket parts were covered by the other person's insurance company. They paid for the diffuser and rear spats. They will not pay for the Nismo bumper. Only OEM. You have to work that out with your body shop. PM me if you'd like. I can share in detail how I did it.

Thank you guys. So the left side of the exhaust tip is pushed to the left a little. there is asymmetry but I think it can be pushed back with a long tube.

Do I just show the adjuster the receipt that I paid for the diffuser?

You would need your tips extended or a Nismo FI exhaust if you get a Nismo bumper.

Is there a huge difference? Extended meaning lengthen the tip?

3 inches minimum. I haven't done mine yet. I have black tips and considering straight pipes/muffler delete. Powder coated blk.

Between the tip and the muffler.

Don't you have NISMO rear bumper and FI HFC at the moment?

If they will only pay for the stock bumper then some body shops will let you pay the difference in the new rear bumper out of pocket. Kinda going through the same thing as you are but my oem nismo bumper price was less than the quoted oem stock bumper so I’m coming out a little ahead. Good luck!
