F.U. OEM knob. - removal
 

Lol I tried to keep it in good condition..... Gave up after 30 mins and started to applied force + vice grips...still not off.... Tried using hair blower to loosen the locktite... same thing, won't budge...any suggestions? I've read almost every thread on this and watched all YouTube videos on this, I'm scared I'll **** up the transmission if I keep trying..

Lots of duck tape wrapped around the shift knob and you're supposed to be using a strap wrench not vice grips

looks like a pit bull went to town on that thing. good lord.

I had to lift up the trim piece and use a wrench as a backup

Yup, that's exactly why I gave up trying to remove the OEM shift knob. Now my beautiful blue turtle TK Hebi Bebi is sitting on my desk. It's the most expensive paperweight I've ever had the privilege of owning.

This is really simple if you use the right tools. Leverage is the key. And as they say, don't bring a knife to a gun fight :-)

As others have mentioned, you need something (eg, strap wrench) with a long handle. With enough leverage, you can move the World. ;)

Don't worry about the transmission. The shifter doesn't go directly into the transmission, it bolts to linkage that runs to the transmission.

Hope you already have a new knob on hand.

Nissan must've used two bottles of loctite on the threads. The f#cking shift knob is on there for good. They may have even fused it on. I have used every tool and every method from every thread and no joy. I will figure something out, even if I have to destroy that POS OEM knob.

If you don't get it off sell your paperweight local :D

I'd lend you my strap wrench, but ... I think you're already too far gone in your removal of the knob.... :icon14:

The knob itself started to rotate so it should come off as long as whatever you're gripping that thing with doesn't slip.

Get a very large pair of plyers to hold the shifter below. Then use a oil filter strap wrench with a breaker bar. The breaker bar fits into the square metal end. Worked for me perfectly.

is it righty tighty and CCW to remove? or maybe vice versa?:icon14:

id try one of those chain wrenches, looks like bicycle chain with a handle on it, piece of pipe for a cheater bar. i think they make one for oil filters that would be the right size.
