I would just leave it with that nice weathered look.

Guys
I got it off finally LOL. Had to buy another vice grip and lifted the boot, had to get my colleague to help grip the bottom while I used the other vice grip to counter turn the knob....that still took us 15-20 mins to get it off....rip OEM knob you PITA. -- OEM knob free if anyone wants it ;) https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...babe342399.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...0a6bcd4012.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...3a16e9ec54.jpg Sent from my HTC 10 using Tapatalk |
I want to find the F!cker at Nissan that spec'd a gallon of thread locker on the shift knob and get an explanation.

Lol. On a more serious note; I think a vice grip on the bottom part after you lift the boot, and a microfiber cloth + strap wrench (or another vice grip like me) and turn both at the same time will work 100%; bottom one clockwise, top part(the knob) counter-clock wise and turn together so the bottom is resisting. |
Best DIY thread hehe. You should ship this back to Nissan with a note "F YOU!!!"

some Z's come from the factory using waaay too much loctite and does not come off without shredding the knob. even if u duct tape over it, the knob itself can not withstand the amount of torque from the twisting and comes apart. yes, scratchless but in pieces.'
if a strap wrench worked for u, consider urself lucky. |
Oh man! I got my shift knob off in 10 minutes with my dad and I taking turns twisting it with our hands. And I thought mine was hard, Jesus Christ!

Looks like you had a lot of fun removing the stock shift knob :O
|
Oh crap! :rofl2: Mine was off in 2 minutes, and even took a break. :rofl2: I wrapped a rag around it, then duct tape around the rag. Put a 12" pipe wrench on it to break the loc-tite. Then unscrewed by hand.

It appears that Nissan progressively increased the amount of loctite every year. Hence a '12 has more loctite than an '11 but less than a '13. In '15 Nissan stopped using loctite and began using super crazy glue!
