Default LED turn signal damage.

I recently changed the turn signal bulbs to LED and used resistors to prevent the hyper flash.
Yesterday I was told by an auto electrician that Nissan use a Body Control Module to control all of the electrics and that the resistors could quite easily fry the module which would then cost $1500 - $1600 to replace.
He said that this could happen at anytime, a week, 4 months a year or years after fitment.
I've never heard of it happening before but was wondering how true it is and why it does it?

Could anyone shed any light on this?

I've never heard of that. Resistors are to bring the wire resistance up to the same as an incandescent bulb would provide. Not sure how it would damage the BCM.

My 370Z has LEDs with resistors in each corner, as does my Murano. The Murano experiences a random hyperflash every now and then, but the 370Z has been fine.

The resistors are in parallel with the lamps so they lower the circuit resistance. If a resistor with insufficient resistance is used, there is a chance of causing damage due to too much current - but the fuse is supposed to prevent that.

I had my thinking backwards.

Burnt filament = infinite resistance. Silly me.

Not sure how this would pop a BCM.
