Flat Tire Light - question

So, the other day I'm driving normal speeds on a highway; 65mph....

slight hole in the road, very low one, almost non noticable......driving over it produces a light bump....


3 min later, I notice a flashing tire light..lasts about 3 minutes, then goes to solid for about 2minutes....

Then it dissapears all together.
I visually inspected the tires; yokohomas ('12 370z)

Nothing is wrong.

What's up w/ this?? nothing to worry about?

A TPMS light means two things... either low pressure in the tire or a broken TPMS (tire pressure monitor). Easiest way to figure it out is to check the tire pressure... If it is around 35lbs give or take then it is generally a broken sensor.

I had one break in my Mazda due to a pothole... now whenever I drive for a while (more than 25-30 miles) the light flashes meaning it isn't getting an appropriate signal.

sounds like the impact may have interfeared with the TPMS causing it to reset itself. I would just check the tire pressure in all the tires to be sure and continue to check once a month ( i do a check at every fillup with the tire pressure guage that has a magnet in the fuel door to remind me) to ensure it is still working properly. If you dont find a problem I would not worry much about it.

I agree. First thing to do is to check tire pressures with an accurate gauge.

I had this happen to me in the Z when driving in late fall last year. The ambient temperature and the heat of driving will affect the tire pressure. If you are close to the minimum tire pressure in the tires, a thump of the tire might reset the sensor, at which point it discovers that your tire pressure is low. On mine, topping up the tire pressure turned the light off. But if the light doesn't go off, you might have a bad/broken sensor, or simply need to have the system reset on the dealer's computer.

^ This. Blinking means that it is not receiving a signal from the sensor in the wheel, it will go solid after 1-2 minutes of blinking after it gives up. If it eventually re-establishes connection then the light goes out again.

The TPMS probably got damaged hitting the pot hole

like that gauge and how it fits to the fuel door. mind telling me where you got it at..................

I think it flashes initially to get your attention, before going solid.

you can go to any pepboys, autozone, advance auto parts stores and they usually have them near the checkout if not at least in the tire repair section. I just picked up a round face guage that has a magnet attached to it and place it just below and to the right of the fill neck. It gives just enough room for the door to close. everytime I go to fill up when i am removing the cap i see the guage and it reminds me to check my tire level. It even came in handy this morning when my tire light went off and I had to get air at one of those stations that do not have the air pump that tells you how much air is in your tire.

Flashing tire pressure light cause the TPMS is not responding to the module two possible cause is one the sensor is getting low battery voltage and needs to replace it soon or 2 the sensor is not responding to the module at all which is a faulty TPMS also need to replace it. Take it to any Nissan dealership to find out which sensor is going bad or have low battery voltage. TPMS roughly cost between $90-120 it depends on which Nissan vehicle. I work at Nissan Dealership and I seen many of those faulty sensors that need to be replaced.

This just happen to me just now as I was driving on the highway. It would blink for like a minute or so then stayed solid for a minute or so then it turned off. ��I thought my tires were flat so I checked all my tires by pressing the tire walls and they were normal. It start blinking agian as I was driving home.

This happened to me on the way to do my 1st track day last weekend.

5am, in the middle of nowhere on the 14 fwy (in So Cal).

It really freaked me out...I'm thinking, great, flat tire, no track day for me.

Pull over, checked pressure, all 35psi+

Drove another 10-15 mi, same thing.

I wasn't going to miss the track day so, I just went.

The light never came on again...even all the way home.
