I am confused, he does does show how to get the black piece off (#1 on the diagrams). Is that not what you asked to be removed?

#1 on the diagram is a different piece, it goes over/around the tach and covers the gauges on left and right of the tach. It's the black plastic pieces that covers the whole cluster. The video shows how to pull off the piece directly above the tach.
