RHD Japan-Amuse Vestito Wing Issue-please help

****UPDATE! RHD Japan has been amazing. They did some research on the wing and have determined it's actually a Dry Carbon set up they sent me. Which explains the cloud from when the Resin was sucked up. The shop I spoke with taught me a TON about carbon Fiber today and they are incredibly knowledgable. That being said, he is 100% confident in being able to make this wing absolutely shine and even complimented how nice the piece was as he's seen quite a bit of Carbon Fiber in this "raw" stage. Will update with pics when it comes back from the shop!***

Hey guys,

So the long awaited Wing just came in today! :D Hood side mirrors, pillars, fenders, and lip are going to be a bit longer but this is the first piece! I was a bit sad to see the condition it came in though, but all minor and easy fixes EXCEPT this:

Carbon fiber looks EXTREMELY cloudy and just awful. Almost like a protective wax coating? Can't figure it out though. Tried to wash off and once it dries it just goes right back to it's cloudy state. I don't want to buff it until I hear back from RHD, but can anyone put my mind at ease as to what to do?

All the carbon fiber looks like this. Notice the cloud look, even some patches that look extra cloudy and surface scratches in the haze itself:

Side view really shows this:

Gurney Flap came in perfect and exactly how I'd expect CF to look. You can see the cloudyness even more when I place these up next to each other:

The minor parts but still disappointing that I can fix. First chip is on the upper rear and will be covered up with the gurney flap:

Second chip is right where the Carbon Fiber meets the fiberglass. This I plan to have the pearl white just paint over it. The line will essentially start right where this chip starts:

Have you ever seen the CF come in like this? Really hoping it's just something I need to buff out. I don't understand how it could become this cloudy? They had to of seen this, how in their right mind they think they can ship this is beyond me. Worried to see how this goes. Also ordered a crap load more from them so not a good sign that this is the first piece that came in.

Have a bodyshop sand it down, then clear coat. It should be ok.

that doesnt look right.. definately contact vendor first and see what they propose

my buddy's dry carbon fiber spoiler doesn't look as nearly as cloudy or uneven like this. only "matt" feel. i would expect the same finish from this vendor, but never dealt with them so don't know what they're quality is.

Ordered a few items from RHDJapan and never had any issues with quality, including a Zele CF radiator shroud which was excellent condition, so this puzzled me that they would ship these out in those condition. Shipping back to Japan for refund would be a huge pain..If anything, get them to refund you partially for what you paid, maybe that's enough $ to go get it fixed. Good luck

Ya man, nothing but great things from them. And they've been wonderful thus far with customer service so I can't imagine they'd send it like this one purpose unless I'm missing something. Maybe it's in it's "pre-prep" stage and a body shop will know just what to do. I thought it was odd that the wing came so fast (it was about 6 weeks) so who knows how long this thing was sitting at their warehouse :/

GREAT news!! This actually might just be in it's rawest form. I did some researching and found a video of a guy restoring his carbon fiber hood. Right after he wet sands it down at 5mins 10s, it looks exactly like my wing:

Then at the end, he puts on a clear coat at 9 m 16s and she's all purty. So I bet the body shop knows exactly what to do. ;)

Ima excited again!:ughdance:

If the description of the part(s) he bought matched what was shipped I would agree. If they are not, I'll be damned if I am going to invest more money into fixing something that I shouldn't have to fix because of poor quality.

I would agree if you he was not talking about a company that is halfway around the world. The lesser of the evils is to fix it so you can enjoy it and move on!

It's a part that requires finishing. Like most bodykit pieces, paint and clear coat is required.

The main issue I see with this part is the chip on the edge and I would ask the vendor for a partial refund because of that issue.

This is great, and I really hope that is the case as I was disappointed last night. I've ordered CF in the past but never JDM like this so it just wasn't exactly what I was expecting. The chips I agree, but nonetheless the gurney flap will be a perfect fix. ;) Thanks guys! Will post up pics after the clear coat!
