Default Passenger Airbag Module

I all. Wasn't sure if I should resurrect a dead thread about this, and my issue is a bit different so I'm starting a new one.

My airbag light was flashing, so I followed the directions to get it into diagnostic mode, and now I'm seeing 8 flashes after the original long flash, which indicates "Front Passenger Airbag Module". I didn't mess around with my seats or anything. Can this come on in error, or should I take it seriously? (I mean, airbag issues are pretty serious...)

Can I replace the module myself?

Thanks

did u mess with your stereo? if u undid the passenger side srs warning light during the install and forgot to plug it back in before u turned on your car, that would also trigger it.

check the audio section for reset.

Nope. I did remove the rear cargo light when I was putting sound deadener in the trunk. Maybe something to do with the wiring of the sub? That got moved around...

Off-topic but which sound deadener did you use and was it a noticeable difference?

It was actually Boom Mat, but the stuff you're supposed to use under the hood. "Boom Matt under hood thermal acoustic lining".
Not what it's intended for, but I got a roll cheap so I thought I'd try it. Super thick at nearly an inch, but made a decent bit of difference. I just roughly lined the metal at the bottom, and then on top of the space between the back of the trunk and the part further forward where the amp is. I have a bit left over so might stick a few patches in the doors if I get around to taking them apart.

Where did you find out how many flashes indicates what problem for the airbag light? I have the same problem, although I don't remember if it was 6 or 8 flashes... I'm having problems with my passenger side air bag as well I think. With everything plugged in, my passenger side air bag light is constantly on and my airbag light in the dash is also constantly on :/

Well, I took it to the dealer, since it was flashing since around the time they fixed the window actuator, and that was really the only electrical work done on it.

They called me the other day and said it was a faulty passenger airbag harness or something, and that it's quite an expensive part to replace. Anyone ever have to replace this? Does it have to be done by the dealer? I know they'll likely charge me way more than necessary, but it is an airbag, so I don't want to mess around...

Thanks

No experience with the airbag problem, but plenty of experience with DEALER BS stories, and that one sounds like a winner. May be something they caused, and $ee $ome opportunitie$.

While I'm sure there are some good Nissan dealers out there, I haven't seen one in my area. I'd verify their diagnosis before I shelled out big money for a new airbag. The FSM has diagnostic/repair procedures if you want to DIY. Should tell you what the 8 flashes means and how to fix it.

This maybe a little off topic but how would one disable the passenger air bag? Do we just simple undone the harness under the seat(which harness)? Or is there a fuse to pull?

Same here for me after routing some USB cables into the cubby. I don't believe I disconnected anything related to the seats, airbags and/or stereo.
Any solutions found?
