Most any good shop including the dealer can install it if they have the proper pulley puller. Expect to be charged about 1.5 hours labor. With the right tools it's not a bad job. With the wrong tools....close to impossible unless you get lucky.

Ok, got my oil changed AND had my NST crank pulley and alternator pulley installed at the same time.

First of all, let me say that the pieces look great. They are SO much lighter than the stock units and the quality looks fantastic.

I had a mobile mechanic come by to do it. He used to work at an Infiniti dealership so he didn't have too much of a problem installing. He did say that pulling the stock alternator pulley off was a bitch from underneath, but he got the whole thing done in about an hour.

Driving impressions:

The care definitely revs more freely and seems to accelerate quite well. I don't know if it's just me, but it seems that there is less vibration than before also. I was expecting the opposite, but was happily surprised that the car felt smoother overall. This was the first mod done to the car and I'm happy that I did it. Once I drive it more, I'll post any other impressions that come up.

All in all I give NST a big thumbs up for great service and information as well as supplying a quality product.

OK, have put about 100 miles on the car since yesterday's install. No problems whatsover. My amp gauge is reading just like it was before the pulley install, and YES I did install the alternator overdrive pulley.

More observations:

Besides being substancially more rev happy, I've noticed that the shifting doesn't feel anywhere near as "clunky" as it did before the install. I don't know if the extra inertial mass of the stock harmonic balancer had anything to do with it, but it is NOTICEABLY better now. I've also been resetting my MPG computer and have noticed the average seems to be 2-3 mpg higher than what I was registering before the install. I will run a couple of tankfulls through and monitor the numbers to make sure this is for real.

Thanks again to NST, I'm happy with the mod and am looking forward to doing something more substancial in the near future. Guess I'll wait until SEMA to see what's available.

We are in southwest Houston. Please feel free to call us and stop by if you are ever in our area.

As others have said, most professionals should be able to tackle this job in about 1.5hrs with the proper tools.

Good luck!!!

Anyone else?!

Sad update on my part...

Initially, I was enjoying the changes from adding the UD pulley. I had put on about 500 miles or so and started noticing a couple of drops of oil under the car when I moved it. Also started noticing a slight vibration so I called the mechanic that installed it and he came over to check it out. Turns out it wasn't seated properly and was wobbling. I should have known better and taken it to a shop to have done. I told him to just put the stocker back on. I asked if it was still leaking, thinking it was coming from the front crank seal.

Anyway, he puts the stock pulley back on and says it's all good for now. I get the splash panel washed out and spray down the front of the engine to remove any residual oil... That night I'm STILL smelling oil so I crossed my fingers and took it to the dealer. Sure enough, the front crank seal is bad now. They replaced it under warranty and I'm just hoping that no other damage was done by the bad install.

Just a reminder that when you have bits installed, make sure that you know everything is done correctly. I feel like an idiot now, and it's going to take a little while before I trust my car again to be free from defects. I hate this feeling...

This in no way should reflect on NST. Their service and product were great, I just got unlucky with a bad install. Now I have an expensive paperweight as the inner sleeve has a nice uneven groove in it from where it was spinning incorrectly.

I have this same worry. It took 2 of us to get the crank pulley bolt to let go. Im sure that places a lot of pressure and stress on the front seal. I believe Stillen actually recomends pulling the radiator off and using an impact. If anyone has installed the NST products or the Stillen pulleys I would recomend keeping a close eye on the front seal. This is not a reflection of the great parts produced by NST or Stillen, just the crazy torque spec's of the crank bolt. Nissan must have put it on with a impact gun from a tank assembly line. I have the NST products and the quaility is fantastic.

Which belt did you use? The stock belt or the smaller Gates belt? Just curious...

tcarretti 10-27-2009 08:49 PM

I used the shorter Gates belt. I'm glad I kept the stock belt though now that I had to put on the stock pulley. So far since getting it back from the dealer I see no leaks but can still smell some oil. There must still be some on the block where I couldn't reach with the spray nozzle. Hopefully it will burn off soon and I can have some peace of mind.

Pointman 10-27-2009 10:39 PM

Are you going to go back to the NST parts?
