Old thread I'm pulling up I know.

I hada Hertz ST shifter in my first 2007 Nustang GT. I loved the knochty feel. I knew when I was in without a doubt.

My question is; Are the B&M shifters similar in feel to Hertz shifters? Does anyone have experience with this? Thanks for any help.

Old thread.

At first I didn't like my B&M shifter, Didn't feel smooth to shift. BUT i felt once the lube shifted around it was awesome. I like the notchie shift......makes it feel like a sports car lol. Ive had mine for about 3 years I recently added and weighted shift knob and install a extender cause the shifter was to low for my test.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...9e07af0f7b.jpg

I had a the Stillen short throw shifter before on my last 370Z. The shifts were perise, positive, and crisp to me. I think it’s worth the price to not miss shifts a specially at the track. Also having a good clutch set up always helps. I believe just about any aftermarket short throw shifter would be better than the stock OEM Nissan shifter.

I have a TWM Short shifter paired with a counter sunk weighted shift knob and the SS kit and its honestly one of my favorite mods on my Z. It tightens up the gates and gives it a more mechanical feel compared to the OEM rubbery/loose feel. Not to mention rowing the gears is so much more fun. I drove an S2k for 6 years and that car honestly still has the best shifter I have ever felt in a sports car and a Z with an SS kit comes very close to it in terms of feel.

+1 For the TWM short shifter. I have it and their 7" long handle shift knob. Shifts are mechanical, fast and smooth. I love it on the track and my instructors often comment how nice the long handle knob short throw shifter work together.

I have the same combo.

Shifts are noticeably shorter. However, I "feel" that the synchros are wearing prematurely. I have had to adjust my shifting technique from 2nd to 3rd and 4th to 5th to avoid the occasional crunch. Shifting from 1st to 2nd and 3rd to 4th is quick though.

Maybe I'm too sensitive to the mechanical feel?

I also have the Z1 CSC Elimination Kit + OSGiken Twin Plate GT installed.

I do have some trouble with 5th and 6th as described, but I am hardly ever in those gears on the track. From what I can tell there is no perfect setup to make it shift like a Honda. That because, real sports car.

I noticed synchro wear before I ever modified any part of the clutch system. Installation of a TWM short throw shifter assembly did not increase the wear. Way more miles on the TWM now than I ever put on it while stock.
