did my redline oil changed the other day as well
just drove it last nite 70 degree weather(per outside temp gauge)
this is driving normally shifting at 3-3.5k

first thing i notice is that the oil temp takes a while now to go up
on the freeway, oil temps got to about 215 driving/shifting the same way
normally i would see 220-225

as far as engine smoothness/sound..to be honest sounds the same to me compared to the first time i changed oil with nissan ester
i cant tell the difference

i will keep you guys updated once i take it on a longer drive on a hotter day

so far the plan is to change oil every 3000(did the first oil change at 1500*after break in* and now change again with redline at 4000)
i dont track the car but sometimes i have a heavy foot on the freeways
are 3000 intervals too early??

^^^Yes 3K is way too early! It can go 2x that easily. Ill be doing 7.5K which is schedule II per the manual.

m4a1mustang 08-08-2009 11:30 AM

I guess I'm going to go 6-7.5k. I will just keep a close eye on the oil.

I had a 1990 300zx Na for years I used Redline in it, the car had 132,000 miles on it when I just recently sold it (running fine) At one point a couple of years ago I switched to Pennzoil 10-30 and sometime after that I did notice "ticking" sounds comming from the engine. I thought it might have been something else, but now that I have read this post there is a good possibility that my switching to a less expensive oil my have been the difference. as soon as my 370z is broken in, redline is the oil thats going in it.

I experienced the opposite situation………I heard upper valve ticking with the Nissan break-in oil and switched to Pennzoil Platinum 5-30 @ 1.9K and now the ticking is non-existent and runs a little cooler!

Is the platinum Pennzoil a synthetic? I was just using the regular 10-30 oil. That may be why mine started "ticking" and yours stopped. either that or maybe i dropped my watch down by the intake somewhere? lol.

Pennzoil Platinum is a full synthetic that is highly rated.

I was thinking of changing my "break in" OEM oil a little early 1500-2000 miles and was wondering if that is too quick to replace with Redline or should I go back with Nissan's Ester blend for another 2K-3K miles and then go with Redline?

Thanks!

That's exactly what I did. Changed OEM at 2000 miles, drove around regular oil for another 1800 miles. 3800 miles = Redline Synthetic.

I haven't tried PP, but I'm torn between it and Red Line.

However, I thought PP was a group III oil so it wasn't a full synthetic?

phantom21 08-21-2009 05:53 AM

Hey AK, did you go back with Nissan Ester or some other dino oil?

82theZ 08-24-2009 12:13 PM

mustang did you order the oil, or purchase locally?

dlmartin81 08-24-2009 12:28 PM

I'm approaching the 3,750 and am going to do the Red Line. How man quarts are needed...6? I don't have the manual on me....I'm at work.

jpit 08-24-2009 12:38 PM

You'll need 6 but will probably use 5 1/2.

dlmartin81 08-24-2009 12:46 PM

^^ Cool...thx bro.

Would you be voiding your engine warranty if you do DIY change oil? Thanks
