Changing Diff and Trans Oil

use either a 75-85 or 75-90 GL-4 like the manual says. The tech I talked to was plain wrong. Even if he is correct that a 75-140 would work, he wasn't correct that my MT-90 was the wrong fluid.

Also, I didn't don't mean to go off topic of the original thread on trans oil, but since you mention the dealer, they also put in regular motor oil instead of the Ester I requested during the service.

I was watching the Nissan tech pump in the oil from a distance and saw he was using the oil gun from the bulk oil supply (huge drum of oil hanging from ceiling). I told one of the service managers that I suspected the oil drum didn't contain the Ester based motor oil. She then said that it did and that he simply presses a button on the gun to switch between Ester, Regular oil, synthetic, and syntec blends. I told her I didn't want to make a big fuss but I highly doubted that an almost $20/quart oil would be sold in that large of a drum. She rudely stormed off to the garage so as to prove me wrong only to learn that I was right. She came back and told another service advisor to tell me that they were going to drain it out and put in the Ester... The tech that did the oil change is a different person from the tech who told me that Redline MT-90 for my 6MT gearbox would void my warranty btw.. just shows that sometimes the incompetence isn't isolated and is spread across their techs.

9 years ago, when I was a Junior in High School, I used to work at a oil change shop and some techs just assume way too much without looking into the manuals to make sure they have their facts straight. Doing everything yourself if you have the know how is definitely the way to go.
