Synthetic Oil for 370z; Amsoil?

After reading up on some other threads, does anyone know if the Amsoil is an ester based oil? Also, cossie1600, how much did it go up?

From what I understand its a Group 4 oil that either doesnt have ester or has an ester additive which is different from ester based.

Some people seemed to have good results with Redline which from what I recall is ester-based. I'm in the process of doing some in-depth research on oils and plan on contacting all of the vendors. Will report back in the next couple weeks or so...

Actually that isn't correct. RP, REdline and Motul 300V only are Group 4 based oils with Amsoil.

Amsoil XL line is a Group 3/4.

I have been on that site for many years and will tell you it is a Group 4 not a 5. Read more than just a few posts into it and look at the lab results. Group 4 with some PAO in the oil. RP isn't even close to Group 5 it is more of a Group 3 oil in tests done. And sales marketing will put anything on their labels to make you think it is a Group 5 when in reality and tests show it isn't.

It just went up enough to stay off the zero range. I remember after tracking the car hard, the needle would stay a smudge above the 0 line, the Amsoil double that gap. Also the ticking went away

I went with the 5w40 European oil, not the XL stuff. I drained mine at 5K and had no problems
