Did you have the AC off for a long time then put it back on or is it something that you just started noticing. On my truck (toyota 4 banger w. 243k miles), on hot days in standstill traffic I can hear the compressor start sounding like a valve ticking noise. Now that I don't drive it every day I can't hear it anymore.
